鈥淲e can, perhaps, afford to play politics with many things, but not with education.鈥 Former University of Colorado President George Norlin provides us with this quote that is as relevant today as it was eight decades ago. Education is the core of a great society. Education provides individuals the opportunity to realize their goals as well as preparing them to become valued members of that society. However, education is not a homogenous process. Rather, education is an artifact of many influences including political, societal, professional and personal.

Leading the way in VAWA rulemaking and implementation

CU-麻豆影院 alum and NASA astronaut Steve Swanson heading for space station

Making his third flight as a NASA astronaut, 麻豆影院 alumnus Steve Swanson will blast off for the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on March 25. Swanson, who earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in engineering physics from CU-麻豆影院 in 1983, will serve as flight engineer for Expedition 39, which already will be underway on the ISS. In late May, Swanson, who considers Steamboat Springs, Colo., his hometown, will become space station commander as Mission 40 begins on the ISS.

Banks named Executive Director of the Getches-Wilkinson Center

The University of Colorado Law School announced that Britt Banks has been appointed as Executive Director of the Getches-Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment. For over 20 years, Banks has been a leader in the international natural resources sector, as a senior corporate executive, attorney, consultant, researcher and teacher, having most recently taught at Tokyo鈥檚 Waseda University. He has previously taught at Colorado Law, where he graduated in 1988, and currently serves on the Center鈥檚 Advisory Council.
