Student realizes groundbreaking Olympic dream

During a 24-hour pit-stop in 麻豆影院 -- between Switzerland and Park City, Utah, -- Julia Marino spent a night at her college apartment, caught up with friends over breakfast and spoke about her journey to Sochi to compete as an Olympic athlete. Marino is a CU student and Paraguay鈥檚 first Olympic athlete to compete in the winter games. A slopestyle skier, she was born in Paraguay and raised by her adoptive parents in Winchester, Mass.

CU-麻豆影院 researchers sequence world鈥檚 first butterfly bacteria, find surprises

For the first time ever, a team led by the 麻豆影院 has sequenced the internal bacterial makeup of the three major life stages of a butterfly species, a project that showed some surprising events occur during metamorphosis. The team, led by CU-麻豆影院 doctoral student Tobin Hammer, used powerful DNA sequencing methods to characterize bacterial communities inhabiting caterpillars, pupae and adults of Heliconius erato , commonly known as the red postman butterfly. The red postman is an abundant tropical butterfly found in Central and South America.

CU-麻豆影院 students to offer free tax preparation assistance

Students from the 麻豆影院鈥檚 Leeds School of Business will offer free tax preparation services to individuals under the Internal Revenue Service-sponsored Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. Members of the public who make $52,000 or less are eligible for the service, now in its fifth year at the Leeds School.

From the Provost: Implementation committee for School of the Environment and Sustainability named

Last fall, Dean Leigh and I announced that we were moving forward to create a School of Environment and Sustainability within the College of Arts and Sciences. We named Sharon Collinge, professor of environmental studies and ecology and evolutionary biology and the current Director of the Environmental Studies program, as Director of the School of Environment and Sustainability. Professor Collinge will work closely with the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and with the Office of Academic Affairs. She will be assisted in this new role by a faculty implementation committee, chaired by Jason Neff, associate professor of environmental studies and geological sciences. Learn more >>

New Career Services program helps hone job-seeking skills

CU-麻豆影院 students can now start polishing their interviewing skills and resumes early in their college careers to increase their chances of finding a job once they鈥檙e ready to graduate. A new certificate offered through CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Career Services office called the CU Buffs Professional Program is open to all students, undergraduate and graduate, with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

CU-麻豆影院 awarded DARPA cooperative agreement to assess mechanisms of drugs and chemical agents

The 麻豆影院 has been awarded a cooperative agreement worth up to $14.6 million from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a new technological system to rapidly determine how drugs and biological or chemical agents exert their effects on human cells. The project, called the Subcellular Pan-Omics for Advanced Rapid Threat Assessment, or SPARTA, will be conducted by an interdisciplinary CU-麻豆影院 team led by Research Assistant Professor William Old of the chemistry and biochemistry department.

As the semester begins, all faculty members, all research personnel, as well as staff who support department compliance reporting processes, and students engaged in research (i.e. all personnel responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of research ) are reminded of the requirement to complete a Disclosure of External Professional Activities (DEPA) annually, and to update DEPAS, as needed, within 30 days of any status change.

Chancellor's Corner: Title IX review report finds CU-麻豆影院 meeting legal requirements

CU-麻豆影院 today is releasing an external review report of its policies and procedures regarding sexual harassment, sexual assault and compliance with Title IX. The report found that the 鈥淯niversity鈥檚 policies and practices satisfy current legal requirements.鈥 While we are pleased to be in compliance with the federal law, we are a university that wants to exceed expectations.
