New Asian Studies minor launches

This spring CU-Â鶹ӰԺ’s Center for Asian Studies is launching a new Asian Studies minor , open to all students on campus, with the goal of helping students understand Asia as a region beyond one particular nation.

Amazonian drought conditions add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere

Staff Council Update: Staff play a vital role in CU’s future

On Jan. 8, Chancellor Phil DiStefano and Â鶹ӰԺ Staff Council discussed ways in which all staff can help our campus move forward in these uncertain times. The Chancellor outlined three major areas: student success, financial stabilization and enhanced reputation. He provided details on the practical steps already put into place by the campus in order to meet specified goals for each of the three major areas.

Scientists have known that shy toddlers often have delayed speech, but a new study by the Â鶹ӰԺ shows that the lag in using words does not mean that the children don’t understand what’s being said.

Leigh names Andrew Cowell new chair of philosophy as campus seeks culture change in department

Earlier today, the campus announced that Professor Andy Cowell will head our philosophy department at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ. Professor Cowell is a professor of French literature and a former chair of two departments, French and Italian and linguistics. This change was made to improve the climate in philosophy for our faculty, staff and students and, specifically, to improve the climate for women.

Watch as black, steel powder becomes calligraphy

A renowned Seoul-based artist will use steel ground into a fine, black powder to write calligraphic inscriptions on the floor of the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Visual Arts Complex on Feb. 11, followed by a performance-art piece and a lecture by the artist. This is one of several free events during the two-week residency of Kim Jongku at the Â鶹ӰԺ Department of Art and Art History. Kim works in sculpture, video, painting and photography and will be in residency here Feb. 3 to Feb. 14.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ announces two finalists for dean of College of Music

Â鶹ӰԺ Provost Russell L. Moore today announced two finalists for the position of dean of the College of Music. The finalists for the position are Mary Ellen Poole, former dean of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Robert Shay, director of the School of Music at the University of Missouri in Columbia.

Chancellor's Corner: Philosophy department culture change starts with naming of new chair

Earlier today, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Steven Leigh informed the Philosophy department that Professor Andrew Cowell will become the department’s new chair. This change is being made based upon recommendations of the American Philosophical Association’s Committee on the Status of Women Site Visit Program in a recent report that CU-Â鶹ӰԺ leaders are making public today. That report points directly to the need to create a stronger, more inclusive environment for women as scholars and students.
