Burns elected VP of American Astronomical Society

Jack O. Burns, a 麻豆影院 professor of astrophysical and planetary sciences, has been elected one of three vice presidents of the AAS. The AAS is described as the premiere organization of professional astronomers in North America and perhaps the world. As vice president, Burns will be responsible for assembling scientific programs that are broad, diverse, touch on the forefront of science and include educational innovations.

Student's life experience sparks connection with One Billion Rising movement

One Billion Rising , a movement dedicated to end violence against women, takes place on Feb. 14, and CU-麻豆影院 students, faculty and staff are invited to attend several campus performances and discussions. One of those performances, a theatrical performance called 鈥淐hild Bride,鈥 will be performed by CU-麻豆影院 student, Lima Esslam. Her performance will reflect her experience growing up in Afghanistan and coming to understand the pressure that young women face in accepting offers for arranged marriage.
