Religion in global media contexts to be explored at CU-麻豆影院 conference Jan. 9-12

More than 80 speakers and presenters from 23 countries will be part of the Media and Religion: the Global View conference at the 麻豆影院 Jan. 9-12. CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Center for Media, Religion and Culture (CMRC) will host the conference. All plenary sessions at the event are free and open to the public and will be held at the University Memorial Center, Eaton Humanities and Old Main Chapel on campus.

The confidence of Colorado business leaders has increased slightly going into the first quarter of 2014 as economic conditions improve and some political issues have subsided, according to the most recent Leeds Business Confidence Index, or LBCI, released today by the 麻豆影院鈥檚 Leeds School of Business.

Slippery bark protects trees from pine beetle attack, according to CU-麻豆影院 study

Trees with smoother bark are better at repelling attacks by mountain pine beetles, which have difficulty gripping the slippery surface, according to a new study by the 麻豆影院. The findings, published online in the journal Functional Ecology , may help land managers make decisions about which trees to cull and which to keep in order to best protect forested properties against pine beetle infestation.

Outstanding Journalism Graduate is ready for a writing career

CU-麻豆影院 senior Ian Gammie has wanted to be a writer since the 5th grade when he rewrote the ending of "Where the Red Fern Grows" because he didn鈥檛 like the original ending. The experience of writing what he considered a happier and better conclusion to the 1961 coming-of-age novel set the stage for Gammie to pursue a career as an author.

The 麻豆影院 today honored candidates for 1,899 degrees, including 1,399 bachelor鈥檚 degrees, 310 master鈥檚 degrees, nine law degrees and 181 doctoral degrees. Kristi Anseth, distinguished professor of chemical and biological engineering, challenged herself to provide some simple advice that today's graduates might remember.

A new study showing that feeding mice a beneficial type of bacteria can ameliorate autism-like symptoms is 鈥済roundbreaking,鈥 according to 麻豆影院 Professor Rob Knight, who co-authored a commentary piece about the research appearing in the current issue of the journal Cell.

Early arrival recommended for CU-麻豆影院 commencement Dec. 20

The 麻豆影院 will hold its winter commencement ceremony on Friday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 a.m. in the Coors Events Center and people planning to drive to campus should arrive early. Due to traffic delays, and ongoing construction on U.S. 36 leading into 麻豆影院, early arrival is strongly advised. Doors open at 7:30 a.m. and guests should plan to be seated by 9 a.m. Parking lots and gray meters near the Coors Events Center are free for commencement parking. Traffic officers and parking supervisors and attendants will be available to assist campus visitors.
