Lacrosse home opener part of Buffs鈥 big Saturday

If you鈥檝e ever started a business, you can identify with Ann Elliott. Her startup is lacrosse at the University of Colorado, and it鈥檚 been just under two years in the making. In the making is not completely accurate, because CU lax remains a work in progress and won鈥檛 grow out of that definition for at least a couple of years. But 鈥淎nnie鈥 Elliott is a patient business woman and her 鈥渋nvestors鈥 say they鈥檙e in it for the long run. CU鈥檚 historic grand opening 鈥 the first home game 鈥 is Saturday at noon against Regis.

麻豆影院 scientists have found a creative way to radically improve thermoelectric materials, a finding that could one day lead to the development of improved solar panels, more energy-efficient cooling equipment, and even the creation of new devices that could turn the vast amounts of heat wasted at power plants into more electricity.

George unveils comprehensive strategic plan for athletics

When Rick George was named the sixth Athletic Director in University of Colorado history last summer, one of his first projects he wanted to complete was the development of the athletic department鈥檚 first-ever comprehensive strategic plan, similar to ones he put in place at several of his previous stops. After nearly four months of input, analysis and planning meetings that involved a broad group of individuals representing athletic staff, current student-athletes, alumni, donors and university representatives, George unveiled the strategic plan Wednesday morning to members of the Board of Regents鈥 Intercollegiate Athletics Committee at its meeting in Colorado Springs.

Campus recovery center offers sense of community and support

The comfortable furniture and laid-back atmosphere of the CU Collegiate Recovery Center (CUCRC) in the UMC have the feel of a favorite hang out spot, and that鈥檚 exactly the point, according to Sam Randall, the center鈥檚 assistant director. The center, which opened on campus last August and is free, provides a place to connect with others who are living a sober lifestyle, and offers support for CU-麻豆影院 students in recovery from alcohol or drug use and other addictive behaviors.

Sloan Research Fellowship latest award for CU-麻豆影院 Professor Gordana Dukovic

For 麻豆影院 Assistant Professor Gordana Dukovic of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the awards just keep rolling in. Today the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced that Dukovic was one of 126 people in the U.S. and Canada selected for one of the prestigious Sloan Research Fellowships in 2014.

Chancellor DiStefano launches national search for new Title IX programs director

Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano today will launch a national hiring search for the newly created position of Title IX director at the 麻豆影院. The director for Title IX and protected class programs will report directly to the chancellor. Creating a new Title IX director position with ultimate campuswide oversight for all complaints was the most important recommendation from a recently released external Title IX policy review by law firm Pepper Hamilton.
