The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, or UROP , is one unique program that offers CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students an opportunity to follow academic curiosities in every field. Designed to provide grant-writing experience, connect students to faculty and explore interests beyond the classroom, the program is open to all CU-Â鶹ӰԺ undergraduates.

Students encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's Arizona State game

Students attending the first home football game Saturday against Arizona State University at 8 p.m. are encouraged to arrive at Folsom Field early to enjoy all the gameday festivities. Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. and student seating is first-come, first-served, so fans who want to be in the first few rows should arrive early.

Academic freedom in the classroom: A conversation between students and faculty

This is a complex issue that cannot be covered or resolved in a single event, but it is important the campus begin a dialogue on this issue of great concern to the faculty and to the students. CU Board of Regents approves new degrees for CU-Â鶹ӰԺ College of Media, Communication and Information

Today, the University of Colorado Board of Regents approved 12 new degrees, in addition to a name change for one other degree. The college is now accepting applications and will offer classes for new degrees starting in fall semester 2015.

The University of Colorado Board of Regents today approved 12 new CU-Â鶹ӰԺ College of Media, Communication and Information degrees, in addition to a name change for one other degree. The vote, held today at the University Memorial Center on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus, was the final Board of Regents approval required for the new College of Media, Communication and Information before the degrees are forwarded to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education for approval. The college is now accepting applications and will offer classes for new degrees starting in fall semester 2015.

Join LASP for a MAVEN orbit insertion watch party

Everyone is invited to attend a watch party at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) on Sunday, Sept. 21, when NASA’s MAVEN spacecraft, designed to understand past climate change on Mars, inserts itself into orbit after a 10-month journey to the planet. The event is free and open to the public, although seating will be limited. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The orbit insertion, expected to last 34 minutes, will begin at 7:50 p.m. and end at 8:24 p.m.

Continuing its commitment to improving America’s drinking water, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Sept. 9 announced more than $8 million in grants to create two national centers for research and innovation in small- to medium-sized drinking water systems.

Enforcement of city ordinance requiring bear-resistant trash cans/carts begins Oct. 1

The City of Â鶹ӰԺ has adopted a new city ordinance that requires trash to be secured in bear-resistant trash cans or carts for residents in designated areas within Â鶹ӰԺ. Residents within the secure trash implementation zone, including students living in rental units, should begin receiving retrofitted bear-resistant trash cans/carts on an on-going basis from their trash disposal company. Once ordinance enforcement begins Oct. 1 , unsecured trash can potentially lead to a $250 fine to property owners, landowners, or tenants for failing to utilize approved bear-resistant trash cans.

After spending nearly six months on the International Space Station, Â鶹ӰԺ astronaut-alumnus Steve Swanson is slated to drift back to Earth in a Russian space capsule Sept. 10 before banging down on the steppe of Kazakhstan.
