JILA team develops 鈥榮pinning trap鈥 to measure electron roundness

NIST news release JILA researchers have developed a method of spinning electric and magnetic fields around trapped molecular ions to measure whether the ions鈥 tiny electrons are truly round鈥攔esearch with major implications for future scientific understanding of the universe.

Board of Regents approves $142 million plan for athletics facilities upgrades

The University of Colorado Board of Regents voted 9-0 Wednesday in favor of a $142 million plan to upgrade facilities for intercollegiate athletics at CU-麻豆影院. The plan, presented by CU athletic director Rick George, has six major features including an indoor multipurpose practice facility, transforming the second floor of Dal Ward to increase the athletic department鈥檚 academic support and a high-performance sports center to host collaborative research conducted by faculty at CU-麻豆影院 in Integrative Physiology and researchers at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Staff Council Update: Classified and University Fall Breakfast is Dec. 12

麻豆影院 Campus Staff Council invites you to join the 2013 staff breakfast, Thursday, Dec. 12, from 7 鈥 9 a.m. in the UMC Glenn Miller Ballroom. Special guests from CU service departments will be on hand, sharing information about their programs. To add to the fun, several CU-麻豆影院 administrators and Staff Council members will be your servers. This is a free event for all 麻豆影院 campus classified and professional exempt staff. Buff OneCard needed for entry. In the spirit of service and the season, please considering donating personal hygiene products, canned fruit, hearty soups, canned meats and cold cereals. Items will be greatly appreciated and delivered to Sister Carmen Community Center, in Lafayette.

2013 CCORE Diversity Service Recognition Awards recognize SORCE, SASC

The Diversity Service Recognition annual award, sponsored by the Chancellor's Committee on Race and Ethnicity (CCORE), formerly Chancellor's Advisory Committee on Minority Affairs (CACMA), is given to campus units to recognize their continuing efforts to create a diverse and supportive, learning, working, and living environment, as well as their commitment to promoting an understanding of multicultural issues. This award was presented by CCORE members on Nov. 13, 2013 during the Diversity Summit. There were six departments nominated this year. CCORE is honored to present the award recipients for the 2013 CCORE Diversity Service Recognition Award to two units this year; the Student Outreach and Retention Center for Equity (SORCE) and to the Student Academic Success Center (SASC)

CU-麻豆影院-led team finds first evidence of primates regularly sleeping in caves

Scientists have discovered that some ring-tailed lemurs in Madagascar regularly retire to limestone chambers for their nightly snoozes, the first evidence of the consistent, daily use of the same caves and crevices for sleeping among the world鈥檚 wild primates.

The test will include text messages, emails, social media and website announcements. Annual testing of emergency notification systems is required by the Clery Act, a federal law.

New report calls for early warning system regarding abrupt climate change events

A new National Research Council report calls for the development of an early warning system that could help society better anticipate sudden changes resulting from climate change and their impacts on society, says a 麻豆影院 faculty member who chaired the committee that produced the report.
