University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ researchers have developed a new polymer that resists cracking and shrinking, paving the way for creative breakthroughs in fields ranging from dentistry and microelectronics to the auto industry.

Philip DiStefano, interim chancellor of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, will meet with Durango officials from Fort Lewis College, the R-9 School District and southwestern Colorado legislators on June 13 as part of a Western Slope tour June 13-16. Joining DiStefano will be faculty and students who represent some of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's exceptional educational programs and outreach projects.

University of Colorado students will publicly unveil the design and kick off construction of their solar home June 13 as part of the second international Solar Decathlon competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy. Solar Decathlon Project Coordinator Cecile Warner of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory will join CU, college and community officials at the "house raising" ceremony, which is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Louisville Home Depot, 1200 Dillon Road. The event is free and open to the public.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ is adding $1,000 to the reward offered by Â鶹ӰԺ County Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest and filing of charges regarding a racially motivated assault that occurred last Friday in Â鶹ӰԺ. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's addition will bring the reward amount to $2,500, including $1,000 from Crime Stoppers and $500 pledged by a professor of the victim, according to Ron Stump, vice chancellor for student affairs.

The University Libraries at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ is changing its book fine procedure in order to minimize the number of library books that are declared "lost" by the Libraries and billed by state collections as part of a larger response to overall budget constraints.

University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Professor Kenneth Foote has received the Association of American Geographer's 2005 Gilbert Grosvenor Honors in Geographic Education award. Foote was recognized for his efforts to improve the learning and teaching of geography in higher education through Web-based projects and for his work to help young faculty develop professionally. He also is the chair of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's geography department. Given annually by the AAG, the Gilbert Grosvenor award recognizes outstanding contributions in geographic education.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ chapter of Engineers Without Borders and its partners, which include the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the universities of Ruhengeri and Butare in Rwanda, have been awarded the international Mondialogo Engineering Award along with about $18,000 to support their long-term sustainable engineering project in Muramba, Rwanda.

Dennis A. Ahlburg, senior associate dean of the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, has been named dean of the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, effective Aug. 1, pending approval by the CU Board of Regents. Ahlburg replaces Interim Dean Stephen Lawrence after a seven-month national search. Lawrence has served as interim dean of the Leeds School since July 2004, replacing former Dean Steven Manaster.

Astronomers using NASAÂ’s Spitzer Space Telescope have imaged a giant molecular cloud being shredded by howling stellar winds and searing radiation, exposing a group of towering dust pillars harboring infant stars, according to a University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ researcher.
