A University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ space research group will receive $12.2 million to participate in an upcoming NASA mission to explore the fundamental physics of electromagnetic fields near Earth as they interact with the solar wind.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ is again the number one destination for Colorado high school seniors receiving prestigious all-expense-paid Boettcher Scholarships. Twelve new Boettcher Scholars will begin attending CU-Â鶹ӰԺ in the fall. The incoming freshman Boettcher winners come from 11 different high schools around the state. The group includes six women and six men.

The University of Colorado School of Law has received $334,000 in gifts toward the new Wolf Law Building, including a $184,000 gift from the Denver law firm of Rothgerber Johnson & Lyons LLP. The donation was joined by partnering gifts from FirstBank Holding Co. and an anonymous donor totaling an additional $150,000. The gifts are an important step in the school's campaign to raise $12.8 million in private donations to complete construction of the building scheduled to open in summer 2006.

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Facilities Management department will begin spraying weeds bordering streets and in certain lawn areas in order to help re-establish healthy grass in places where it has been choked off by a proliferation of weeds. Most playing fields and other major lawn areas will not be sprayed.

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Friends of the Libraries will present a talk by mystery writer Diane Mott Davidson of Evergreen at the 13th annual Just Desserts event on Friday, May 20. The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Center for British and Irish Studies on the fifth floor of Norlin Library on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus. The evening is free and open to the public. Desserts will be offered prior to Davidson's address. Davidson writes a culinary mystery series featuring amateur sleuth Golda the caterer. Each of her books includes original recipes.

The spring commencement ceremony of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ on May 6 at 8:30 a.m. will be broadcast live on Campus Cable channel 10, available on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus, and on the Web. The commencement ceremony, which is free and open to the public, will be held in Folsom Stadium and 5,464 degrees will be conferred. No tickets are required to attend the ceremony.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's Air Force ROTC Detachment has earned an "Outstanding" overall grade in its triennial Air Force inspection, which was completed in February 2005. Last year, fewer than 10 percent of the 144 Air Force ROTC units throughout the country earned the Outstanding overall rating. Col. Bill Kunzweiler, commander of the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Air Force ROTC Detachment 105, said that Detachment 105 "is in its best shape ever, in terms of both size and the quality of our cadets."

The Office of Diversity and Equity at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has awarded 2005 Equity and Excellence Awards to five faculty, staff and students. Associate Professor Ruben Donato of the School of Education received the faculty award. Carol Miyagishima, director of the Chancellor's Leadership Residential Academic Program and Ethnic Living and Learning Community, received the staff award. They were chosen for their commitment to academic excellence, cultural pluralism and diversity in the university community.

The Puksta Scholars Program at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has selected eight new students to receive a scholarship on the basis of their civic responsibility, high ethical standards and strong academic goals. Adam Gibbons, Courtni Frank, Regan Walton, Kovi Bessoff, Evan Thomas, Caitlin Merrell, Michelle Stavros and Victoria Van Antwerp each will receive a $4,500 scholarship in recognition of their commitment to civic engagement. The recipients join nine scholars already involved in the program.
