Sandra Day O鈥機onnor to speak at CU-麻豆影院 on Sept. 17

Retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O鈥機onnor will speak at the third annual John Paul Stevens Lecture hosted by the Byron R. White Center at the 麻豆影院 Law School on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the University Memorial Center鈥檚 Glenn Miller Ballroom on the CU-麻豆影院 campus. A limited number of tickets to the lecture are available to the general public at no cost. To register for tickets visit the center鈥檚 website at http://www.byronwhitecenter.org .

Behind the scenes: Growing knowledge in the green house

For 22 years, Tom Lemieux has been nurturing both plants and students at CU-麻豆影院. As director of plant science facilities, Lemieux along with Assistant Greenhouse Manager Janice Harvey, manages the three greenhouses maintained by the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. It may not seem that daunting of a task until you learn that Lemieux is responsible for the health and well being of more than 6,000 plants of 1,000 different species.

Albert Allen Bartlett, professor emeritus of physics at CU 麻豆影院, was remembered today as a revered teacher who had a major impact on his students, the university, 麻豆影院 and far beyond. Bartlett died at the age of 90.

Plans for new College of Media, Communication and Information (CMCI) move forward

Subcommittees charged with recommending curriculum and structure for the college鈥檚 seven academic units will hold public meetings beginning next week to share their initial ideas and solicit comments. The CMCI will be an interdisciplinary college, housing programs in journalism, advertising and design, communication, the moving image and media production, media studies and a new department of information studies.
