The 麻豆影院 Fall Welcome, which introduces new students to the campus through various events and activities, officially kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The Beatles played in front of over 55,000 screaming fans at Shea Stadium 鈥� an unprecedented event that ushered in the modern rock era, says Mike Barnett, an instructor at CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 School of Music.

Three Facilities Management employees - Robert Mascarenas, Ethan Rhoades and Kuan Promhakham 鈥� are currently taking part in a unique professional opportunity that's changing the directions of their careers.

The Office of Organizational and Employee Development invites CU-麻豆影院 employees to attend upcoming seminars and workshops. September's featured seminars are CU Grow: What is Leadership?, Supervising Student Employees from A-to-Z, and Generations in the Workplace. Programs are free of charge for CU-麻豆影院 employees. Space is limited and sessions are filling up fast.

Seven Lions will headline the annual Welcomefest Concert taking place on Farrand Field on Saturday, Aug. 22. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. The annual Welcomefest Concert is sponsored by Program Council.

Award-winning Iranian writer Azar Nafisi will speak on 鈥� The Republic of Imagination: Humanities and the Future of Democracies 鈥� at the Best Should Teach Lecture from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at Macky Auditorium.

On Aug. 19 and 20, all campus parking lots will be closed to accommodate Move-in traffic. No current parking permits will be honored on main or East Campus, and pay lots, meters and parking garages will also be closed to regular traffic.

Stuck oil rigs, grizzly bears and changing weather patterns are just a few of the obstacles Gijs de Boer and his team of researchers encountered on the ground in Oliktok Point, Alaska. De Boer, a scientist with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES), who works in NOAA鈥檚 Earth System Research Laboratory, spent the last two weeks deploying the DataHawk 2, a small, lightweight, unmanned aircraft, designed by CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences.

It鈥檚 August and that means the hottest show in the night sky -- the Perseid meteor shower -- will make its annual appearance, peaking in the pre-dawn hours of Aug. 11 to 14.

Mars turned cold and dry long ago, but researchers at the 麻豆影院 have discovered evidence of an ancient lake that likely represents some of the last potentially habitable surface water ever to exist on the Red Planet.
