Teens track asteroids with CU-麻豆影院 telescopes in Summer Science Program

For six weeks, 36 high-achieving high school students functioned on very little sleep. From dusk until 3 a.m., students in this year鈥檚 Summer Science Program (SSP) tracked asteroids using telescopes at the Sommers-Bausch Observatory . They determined orbit patterns, learned college level celestial mechanics and physics, along with computer programming, and calculated the likelihood that their assigned asteroid would collide with the earth at some point in the future.

CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Mini Law School open for registration

For the fourth year, the CU-麻豆影院's Mini Law School, which is open to the campus community and the public, will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. over eight Tuesdays Sept. 8 to Nov. 3. Designed for non-lawyers wanting to grasp and navigate the basics of the legal system, the course will cover everything from constitutional law to intellectual property, environmental, estate planning, family, criminal and business law, as well as litigation.

And because the moon is in its waning phase, this year鈥檚 meteor shower should be outstanding, says Matt Benjamin, a planetary scientist and education program manager at CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Fiske Planetarium.

As a result of your hard work and focus toward that goal, CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 profile has never been higher in Colorado, around the nation and throughout the world. This hard work will continue as we welcome new students, and we are asking that you join us in the effort to make sure that Move-in goes smoothly. To ensure a welcoming and efficient process this year, our teams are taking the rare-but-necessary step of limiting traffic on campus and surrounding roadways by restricting parking on the entire CU-麻豆影院 campus on Aug. 19 and 20.
