A new study finds no evidence of a widespread surge in total, violent or property crime in large U.S. cities in the aftermath of the highly publicized police shooting of Michael Brown. But the research does show the overall rate of robberies across the country has increased, as has the murder rate in certain cities.

A child鈥檚 perception of an adult鈥檚 trustworthiness can affect his or her willingness to resist a small, immediately available reward in order to obtain a larger reward later, a new 麻豆影院 study has discovered.

Campus Q&A: Five things you should know about the Zika virus

The Zika virus, discovered in 1947 in Africa, is related to the viruses that cause yellow fever, West Nile, dengue and chikunguna, and it is spread by bites of the mosquitos Aedes aegypti and, to a lesser extent, Aedes albopictus. In the past the virus was found principally in Africa, southeast Asia, and parts of the Pacific, but over the past several years and especially in the last 6-9 months it has grown 鈥渆xplosively鈥 in the Americas. Brazil has been especially hard hit, and there is concern that the coming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro may cause further expansion of the virus鈥 territority.

Citizen scientists, community groups awarded grants to study impacts of oil and gas development

Five community-led projects from across Colorado will explore air and water quality and sustainable energy development with support from the latest round of grants from the AirWaterGas Sustainability Research Network based at the 麻豆影院. The grants aim to improve understanding of the risks and benefits of oil and gas development as identified by community organizations.

Rennie Harris and his dynamic dance company, Grass Roots Project, will present the hip-hop-inspired 鈥淏eautiful Human Lies鈥 at CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Irey Theatre Feb. 12-14. Harris, a regular guest artist at CU-麻豆影院, is widely recognized as the world鈥檚 foremost choreographer of hip-hop and street dance theater.

UMC to open all-gender restroom

The first multi-stall, all-gender restroom in the University Memorial Center will open in February. Located in the UMC鈥檚 second floor northwest wing, the all gender restroom was first proposed by the UMC Board, a branch of CU Student Government and the governing board of the UMC, in 2011.
