Opportunities to Learn and Develop Professionally
Our undergraduate program, ranked 18th听among public university by听U.S. News & World Report, consists of 128 credit hours and offers you the ability to specialize with technical electives听and subspecialties听in Biomedical Engineering or Environmental Engineering. The College of Engineering and Applied Science also has numerous minor听and certificate programs听for engineering students.听Some students also choose听to extend their undergraduate education during their junior year with听a Bachelor鈥檚鈥揂ccelerated Master鈥檚 (BAM), a program that gives you the opportunity to earn an MS听degree more quickly than you otherwise could.听
At the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering, we听make听hands-on learning a priority. Our professors and instructors have varied career,听research听and teaching experiences which make for a broad range of available technical electives covering听topics from bio-inspired robotics to flow visualization and beyond. In their听final听year of study, our听undergraduates听participate in Senior Design, a unique capstone design experience that allows students to apply the knowledge they've acquired in听fundamental mechanical engineering听courses to a real-world, open-ended design challenge.听
Professional development is also a focus of the program. Students participate in experiences that grow them听as听professionals like听company tours, networking events, professional development coursework and real-world design projects.
Finding Community at Rady Mechanical Engineering
A strong undergraduate community exists within the Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering, in part because of active听student organizations like American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and many others.听ASME听plans multiple professional development and community-building听events each semester and invites all mechanical engineering students, and sometimes mechanical engineering staff, faculty and alumni, to participate. Paul M. Rady Mechanical Engineering is unique in that while听students excel academically, they also exemplify what it means to work听together as a team and are able to celebrate the successes of one another.听
