Varioskan LUX Plate Reader
Analysts interested in quantifying DNA, cell cultures, and biological or chemical processes based on absorbance or fluorescence should consider using the Varioskan LUX Plate Reader. Analysts can analyze samples in 6-384 well plates using the Varioskan LUX Plate Reader allowing fast real time data collection. Samples can be analyzed as is or with chemicals/dye additions to bind to analytes for absorbance or fluorescence. Broad spectrum scans or specific wavelengths can be selected during sample analysis. While it is helpful to know the peak excitation and emission wavelengths when using the plate reader, the specific wavelengths can be determined with a broad spectrum scan. A broad spectrum scan is generally used for qualitative data to gain a better understanding of what compounds are in a sample and where the compounds’ peak absorbance or fluorescence occur. A broad spectrum scan shows a compound(s)’ absorbance or fluorescence over a range of wavelengths in the ultraviolet and visible spectrums. A selective scan is used for quantitative analyses. In a selective scan, the user chooses a specific wavelength(s) at the peak of a curve where the highest absorbance or fluorescence value of an analyte occurs. When using a selective scan, the sample concentration can be determined by analyzing a set of standards and plotting them against each standard’s absorbance or fluorescence.
