Autoclaves
Analysts interested in sterilizing materials/biohazardous waste or performing a high pressure and high temperature sample oxidation/digestion should consider using an autoclave. There are currently four autoclaves available in the engineering laboratories. With the addition of water, sealed autoclaves reach temperatures of 121℃ and pressures of 30 pound per square inch (psi) for up to one hour. This temperature and pressure sterilizes bacteria and digests and/or oxidizes metals and nutrients in enclosed aqueous samples.
