Muffle Furnaces
Muffle furnaces are used to remove organic molecules from glassware, oxidize inorganic particulate compounds, perform catalyst research, or determine total volatile suspended solids/ash free dry mass.. There are three different muffle furnaces in the engineering laboratories, a Thermo Scientific Thermolyne 30400 Muffle Furnace (Lab 235A), a Thermo Scientific Thermolyne 30400 Muffle Furnace (Lab 271A), and a Fisher Scientific Muffle Furnace (Lab 230A). The Thermolyne Muffle Furnace (Lab 235A) reaches maximum temperatures ~700℃. The Thermolyne Muffle Furnace (Lab 271A) reaches maximum temperatures ~1000℃. The Fisher Scientific Muffle Furnace (Lab 230A) reaches maximum temperatures ~600℃. Thermolyne Muffle Furnaces may be controlled manually or using built-in programs, while the Fisher Scientific Muffle Furnace requires manual temperature control.
