Proud to be a Buff,聽Pam Hale Anderson鈥檚 (Law鈥87) CU family history goes way back. Her parents and grandparents attended CU and her great-grandfather was Horace Morrison Hale, the second president of the university for whom Hale Science is named. Pam writes she has enjoyed all the historical materials CU has given her. She lives in La Crescenta, Calif.

Traveling for three weeks in Europe,聽Mark Kuta Jr.聽(MBA鈥87) advertised the university abroad by wearing a CU T-shirt every third or fourth day. Mark traveled to Germany, Austria and Italy along with his wife and their two kids. Mark writes he can vouch for the CU brand as around 10 people recognized the logo. Mark lives in Denver.

On May 27聽Lesley Gillis聽(MTeleCom 鈥87) and her husband celebrated their 40th anniversary with a trip to Russia. Lesley worked at Qwest and Whole Foods. She is retired but volunteers at Community Food Share. The couple has three children and two grandchildren, and Lesley and her husband live in 麻豆影院.

Attorneys Title Guaranty Fund appointed Chicago attorney聽Jonathan Sherry聽(Fin鈥87) to the board of directors. He owns and operates a law practice that focuses on residential and commercial real estate. He handles all aspects of more than 3,000 real estate and loan closings. Jonathan lives in Highland Park, Ill.

No stranger to literary success,聽Bruce Rogers聽(MEngl鈥87) won for the second time the Micro Award, a literary prize for fiction not exceeding 1,000 words. His entry聽Divestiture聽finished first out of 421 eligible stories. Bruce also has won Nebula, Bram Stoker, Pushcart and World Fantasy awards. He lives in Eugene, Ore. Solatube International manufactures 鈥淭ubular Daylighting Devices,鈥 energy-efficient natural daylighting systems. Neall focuses on new design and application tool protocols to support the company鈥檚 integration of optical daylighting products into commercial, industrial and residential buildings. He lives in Carlsbad, Calif.

In March, the 麻豆影院 International Film Festival (BIFF) celebrated its 19th year in operation. Sisters Kathy Beeck (Engl, PolSci鈥86) and Robin Beeck (Comm鈥88) founded the festival in 2004, and since that time, they鈥檝e grown it into one of the country鈥檚 most respected film festivals. It attracts more than 20,000 film enthusiasts, media and industry members annually. Named one of the 鈥25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World鈥 by MovieMaker Magazine, BIFF brings films and filmmakers from around the world to 麻豆影院 for a four-day annual celebration.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) published Clean Energy Innovators: NREL People Working to Change the World, a softbound book written by NREL鈥檚 Ernie Tucker. The book, which can be downloaded online for free, tells the stories of NREL鈥檚 people and the technologies they鈥檝e advanced to help confront the climate crisis. The book features several CU alumni including catalyst researcher Kim Magrini (PhDChem鈥88), hybrid electric vehicles researcher Rob Farrington (PhDMechEngr鈥92), battery system researcher Matt Keyser (MechEngr鈥91) and Olympic biathlete Tim Tetreault (MechEngr, MS鈥04).

This year Rick Bushnell (IntlAf) received the Governor鈥檚 Award for Leadership Management from Washington Gov. Jay Inslee. Rick, real estate operations manager for the Department of Enterprise Services, was one of 20 to receive the award. By negotiating more favorable leases for state facilities, Rick saved Washington taxpayers $2.2 million in 2018.

After graduating from the CU ROTC program, Jon Safstrom (CivEngr) served 10 years on active duty in the Navy as a F-16 and F/A-18 pilot. He logged over 300 combat flight hours in support of multiple operations including Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon leaving active duty, Jon joined the Minnesota Air National Guard, where he attained the rank of brigadier general and now serves as the assistant adjutant general.

The mission of Corey鈥檚 Goal is to honor Corey and his love of hockey by supporting hockey programs through gifts and open dialogue about how disciplinary practices in schools can better support the emotional wellbeing of students.

In 2016, for the fifth consecutive year, he was named a 鈥淭op 1% Mortgage Originator in the United States.鈥 He has been with SWBC Mortgage Corporation since 2010, originating loans in both Colorado and Georgia.
