Karen Elting Brock (Engl) published Every Thread a Story: Traditional Chinese Artisans of Guizhou Province in April. Karen is the associate publisher of Thrums Books and has edited and helped produce 15 titles, bringing to life the stories of indigenous artisans from across the globe, honoring diverse cultures, history and craft traditions. This is the first book she has written for Thrums. She lives in Loveland, Colorado.

In June, the Los Angeles Press Club awarded Santa Monica resident George Johnston (Jour) first place in the personality profile category for his story 鈥淪till Hovering: Ex-Door Gunner鈥檚 Vietnam Memories Never Far Away.鈥 Published by the Pacific Citizen, the article follows the life of John Masaki, a Japanese American whose family lived in an internment camp during World WarII and who served in the Vietnam War.

Phillip Reid聽(Phys) writes in August 2018 he earned聽his PhD from George Washington University in engineering management and systems engineering. Since CU, he鈥檚 spent聽31 years as a principal engineer at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, now the Boeing Company. Currently, he is leading the system integration laboratory at Boeing, focusing on the development of a reusable rocket system. He resides in Orange, Calif.

Timothy S. Tomasik聽(Advert) was named a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. President-elect of the Illinois chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a member of the International Society of Barristers, he now serves on its board of governors. Away from work, he has served聽as board president for聽the foundation Lawyers Lend-A-Hand to Youth, which provides grants聽to mentorship programs for Chicago鈥檚 underprivileged youth. Rob Stites (MBaSci) presented a workshop titled 鈥淭he Power of Peer Review鈥 at the Capability Counts 2018 International Conference in Reston, Va., May 1. He published a book, which he started as a CU graduate student, titled聽Organized Proverbs: Contrasts in Wisdom from the Holy Bible. Rob works for CACI, a multinational professional services and information technology company, where he is a project manager for quality assurance.

Thirty-two years after聽receiving his commission from CU鈥檚 Army聽ROTC,聽Lou Carmona聽(OrgMgmt) will retire this聽summer as a colonel聽in the Army and Army聽National Guard. He deployed four times during聽his military career and聽served as an Army aviator in active flight status.聽He plans to continue聽working in aviation. He聽writes that he is currently聽the state Army aviation聽officer for the California聽Army National Guard and聽lives in Northern California, where the fires and聽floods have kept him聽busy. He and wife Tamyra聽have five children.

In 2011, he was a member of the plaintiff鈥檚 executive committee in litigation that secured a $1.2-billion settlement on behalf of World Trade Center property damage victims. Timothy鈥檚 wife, Jennifer, is also a lawyer. They have two daughters and live in Western Springs, Ill.
