'People's Court' Federal Judges Meeting At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Law School

The U.S. Court of Federal Claims, also known as "the People's Court," is holding its 20th judicial conference on Wednesday, Oct. 10, and Thursday, Oct. 11, at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Law School. During the "Claims Against the Sovereign" meeting, more than two-dozen federal court judges from the historic Washington, D.C., court will meet in the Wolf Law Building, including Chief Judge Edward J. Damich and 23 other active judges.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Talk On Climate, Greenland Set Oct. 12 With Copenhagen Climate Expert

University of Copenhagen ice-core expert Dorthe Dahl-Jensen will speak on ancient Greenland and climate change on Friday, Oct. 12, at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series hosted by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences. The talk, which is free and open to the public, will be in the CIRES Auditorium in the Ekeley Science Building. Collage By Artists With Aphasia To Debut At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ On Oct. 19

A collage created by a group of artists with communication disabilities stemming from stroke or brain injuries will be on display this month at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences Center. The center will unveil an artwork display by the Aphasia Community Art Studio during a public viewing and reception that will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19. The exhibit is a collaborative effort between CU-Â鶹ӰԺ and Naropa University's art therapy department.

CU Opera To Stage 'Dead Man Walking' Oct. 26-28 At Macky Auditorium; Sister Helen Prejean Part Of Discussion Oct. 26

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will stage the first college production of "Dead Man Walking," an opera based on the acclaimed book by Sister Helen Prejean, a Catholic nun who opposes the death penalty. The university's opera program will stage the production at Macky Auditorium on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28. The opera contains scenes for mature audiences only. Parental discretion is advised.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Assistant Law School Dean Lorenzo Trujillo Named 2007 Latino Lawyer Of The Year

One of the nation's largest professional associations for Hispanic lawyers, judges and law students has named Lorenzo Trujillo, assistant dean of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Law School, the 2007 Latino Lawyer of the Year. Trujillo, who graduated from CU's law school in 1993, received the award during the Hispanic National Bar Association's annual convention in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Oct. 3-7. Trujillo has served as general counsel and regional president of the association and has been president of the Colorado Hispanic Bar Association.

Internet2 Will Bring Philadelphia Orchestra Performance To CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's ATLAS Building Oct. 12

A new use of cutting-edge Internet technology will bring a live performance of the Philadelphia Orchestra to the Black Box Theater in the ATLAS building at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ on Oct. 12. The presentation, arranged by the Center for Arts, Media and Performance, will begin with a pre-show at 11:30 a.m. followed by the all-Beethoven concert led by guest conductor Peter Oundjian at noon. The event is free and open to the public.

$2.3 Million Gift Establishes J.D. Abrams Multicultural Student Center At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ

J.D. and Elsie Abrams, longtime supporters of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, have committed $1.5 million to establish a multicultural student center and an additional $800,000 to enhance the J.D. Abrams Engineering Scholarship Fund. The J.D. Abrams Multicultural Student Center will be part of the new Center for Community at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ. The community center will include a new dining hall, programs and student services that will enrich the student experience.
