Parents To Visit CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Campus Oct. 19-21 For Annual Fall Family Weekend Event

Nearly 5,000 visitors are expected for this year's fall Family Weekend at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, which is hosted by the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Parents Association. The Oct. 19-21 weekend event enables parents and other family members to visit students on campus and to participate in activities including a golf tournament, musical performances, a 5K fun run and walk, a faculty awards ceremony and the Colorado-Kansas football game, which will kickoff at 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

New distance learning capabilities in the newly expanded and renovated Koelbel Building will enhance international outreach efforts at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's Leeds School of Business by providing the ability to export classes around the globe. "New distance learning capabilities in the Koelbel Building at the Leeds School will enable Leeds faculty and students to engage in joint learning experiences with compatriots of leading business schools around the world," said Dipankar Chakravarti, professor of marketing at the Leeds School.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Leeds School of Business will formally dedicate its expanded and renovated home, the Koelbel Building, at 3 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 19, with a ceremony at the Koelbel Building's main entrance. "We are open for business, "said Leeds School Dean Dennis A. Ahlburg. "Inspired learning has a new home. The Koelbel Building invites curiosity and the search for new ideas with a wonderful environment that provides both inspiration and technological tools." The dedication is open to the public.

‘Native American Star Knowledge’ Topic Of CU Planetarium Show Oct. 19

Traditional star knowledge of the Lakota, Pueblo and Navajo tribes will be discussed Oct. 19 at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ’s Fiske Planetarium. “Native American Star Knowledge” will be presented by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Professor John Stocke of the astrophysical and planetary sciences department. Stocke will examine the Lakota and Pueblo traditions, including the methods used by ancestral members of the tribes to keep accurate calendars, which were used to time their religious ceremonies correctly.

CU Leeds School Of Business MBA Program Ranks In Top 20 In Two Surveys Ranking Entrepreneurship, Social Responsibility

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Leeds School of Business MBA program has been ranked in the top 20 in two surveys released this week. The Aspen Institute has ranked the Leeds School 20th for social and environmental stewardship in its 2007-08 Beyond Grey Pinstripes rankings. The biennial global ranking evaluates business school efforts to prepare graduates for new business realities demanding social and environmental stewardship. Beyond Grey Pinstripes also ranked the Leeds School eighth among "small schools" with spring 2007 enrollments of less than 100 students.

A fire-breathing pumpkin and some lively chemical reactions will highlight an Oct. 20 CU Wizards show about chemistry at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. Veronica Bierbaum, a professor in CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's chemistry and biochemistry department, will present the free program "The Magic of Chemistry" at 9:30 a.m. in Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building room 140. The show will have a Halloween theme and children are invited to wear costumes.

CU's Modern Indian Identity Series To Feature Eva Garroutte On Oct. 25

Eva Garroutte, author of "Real Indians: Identity and the Survival of Native America," will speak at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Oct. 25 as part of the Center of the American West's Modern Indian Identity series. Her talk, "My Father's Stories: Remembering Oklahoma," is free and open to the public. The lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. in the ATLAS building auditorium and will be followed by a reception in the ATLAS lobby.
