Colorado teachers to learn video game programming with algebra at special CU-麻豆影院 workshop

Middle and high school teachers from across the Front Range will learn how to teach key math concepts to their students while introducing them to video game programming during an April 21 workshop at the 麻豆影院. Emmanuel Schanzer of Harvard University will lead the workshop sponsored by CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Department of Computer Science. Schanzer is the creator of Bootstrap, a computer programming tool that uses algebra to create images and animations.

Startup Gogy Inc. to develop CU-麻豆影院 interactive education platform

Startup company Gogy Inc. and the University of Colorado have executed an exclusive licensing agreement that will enable the company to commercialize the Pedago.gy interactive teaching platform developed at CU-麻豆影院鈥檚 Leeds School of Business. Pedago.gy is a Web application that creates a space for educators and students to engage in additional interaction and dialogue beyond the classroom. It provides a means whereby students and instructors can approach a topic in a collaborative fashion, rather than the typical expert-learner model found in most classrooms.

Four finalists named for CU-麻豆影院 dean of students

Four finalists have been named for the position of associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at the 麻豆影院, according to Dr. Donald Misch, assistant vice chancellor for health and wellness and chair of the search committee. 鈥淭he search committee was very pleased to receive over 100 applications from professionals throughout a wide geographic distribution,鈥 Misch said. 鈥淲e found it to be a very strong pool of candidates and our four finalists all have a wealth of student affairs experience.鈥

CU-麻豆影院 Engineering Days to feature egg drop on April 19

Engineering students at the 麻豆影院 will host the annual College Egg Drop on April 19 as part of their annual celebration of Engineering Days. The egg drop, which starts at 1 p.m. on the west side of the Engineering Center, challenges students to create a contraption that will protect a raw egg when dropped from the eighth floor of the Engineering Center鈥檚 office tower.

Like snow sliding off a roof on a sunny day, the Greenland Ice Sheet may be sliding faster into the ocean due to massive releases of meltwater from surface lakes, according to a new study by the 麻豆影院-based Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences.

University of Colorado closed to unauthorized visitors, non-affiliates on April 20

The 麻豆影院 announced today it will be open to students, faculty and staff on April 20, but closed to unauthorized non-affiliates due to the disruption caused by the 4/20 gathering. 鈥淭he gathering disrupts teaching and research right in the heart of the campus,鈥 said CU-麻豆影院 Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano. 鈥淭he size of the crowd has become unmanageable, and limits our faculty, staff and students from getting to class, entering buildings and doing their basic work. It needs to end.鈥
