In an effort to help 麻豆影院 students make smart financial decisions about their budgets, credit, job searches, school loans and other money matters, CU-麻豆影院 is hosting 鈥淢oney Smart Week鈥� April 23-26.
Guest speakers from Elevations Credit Union, the 麻豆影院 County District Attorney鈥檚 Office, Edward Jones, Wells Fargo, Automotive Avenues, Community Credit Counseling Service and the 麻豆影院 Valley Credit Union will give financial pointers to students throughout the four-day event. Some events require an RSVP, and students planning to attend should visit for a complete schedule.
鈥淭he most important thing we want to get across to students is that if they make time to learn one thing during Money Smart Week about managing money better and they put that one thing into practice, they鈥檒l be better off a year from now,鈥� said Susie Jacobs of the CU-麻豆影院 Bursar鈥檚 Office, which is heading the event.
While different financial workshops have been available to students for several years, this is the largest and broadest event yet.
鈥淚n our work in the Bursar鈥檚 Office and the Office of Financial Aid, we saw a real need for basic education around money,鈥� Jacobs said. 鈥淲e launched a student survey to see if there was interest, and there definitely was. Some students don鈥檛 know how to create a budget or stick to one, and others need help looking at the big picture now and after college. But we also realize that money can be a very sensitive and private topic for a lot of people so we wanted to make sure we offer information in ways that best meet students鈥� needs.鈥�
Sessions being offered during Money Smart Week include:
- Check your credit report
- Salary negotiations: what are you worth?
- Basics of investing: building your wealth in today鈥檚 economy
- Got student loans?
- Your finances after college: making a plan
- Small money, big taste: eating well on a budget
