Three University of Colorado professors have been chosen as 2013 President鈥檚 Teaching Scholars, educators who have skillfully integrated teaching and research at a high level throughout their careers at CU. The title of CU President鈥檚 Teaching Scholar signifies the university system鈥檚 highest recognition of excellence in and commitment to learning and teaching, as well as active, substantial contributions to scholarly work. CU President Bruce D. Benson solicits annual nominations of faculty for the designation, which is a lifetime appointment.

On Wednesday, April 17, the 麻豆影院 Faculty Assembly (BFA) gathered to recognize the recipients of the 2012-2013 Faculty Excellence Awards . Each spring the BFA presents up to twelve members of the 麻豆影院 Faculty Senate with awards for faculty excellence, recognizing their outstanding work. The organization accepts nominees in three categories: excellence in the areas of teaching; service; and research, scholarly and creative work.

A Sher thing: Students, faculty will fete outgoing music dean

After 20 years as dean of the 麻豆影院 College of Music, Daniel P. Sher will step away from the post in June 鈥 but he isn鈥檛 going quietly. First, student musicians at the college will dedicate their performance of Beethoven鈥檚 Ninth Symphony at Boettcher Concert Hall in Denver on May 1 to the outgoing dean. The celebration will continue May 2 with a free, public musical fete by faculty performers at Macky Auditorium, including world premiere performances of 鈥淪her鈥檚 Originals,鈥 penned by faculty composers.

CU-麻豆影院 professor works to shrink errors in U.S. census data

A person searching through the massive expanse of data collected by the U.S. Census Bureau in search of details about a specific neighborhood may increasingly find statistics with colossal margins of error, such as an average income of $50,000 plus or minus $50,000. A geographer at the 麻豆影院, one of eight nodes of the National Science Foundation鈥檚 newly created Census Research Network, has been granted a five-year $1.4 million grant to see if he can change that.

The Lockheed Martin Engineering Management Program at the 麻豆影院 now offers a graduate-level Management Consulting Certificate. The university is partnering with the Institute of Management Consultants USA, the certifying body and professional association for management consultants and management consulting firms, on the new offering.
