Campus community invited to participate in campus climate discussions

Over the last academic year CU Student Government (CUSG), the Â鶹ӰԺ Faculty Assembly (BFA), and the Office of Faculty Affairs (OFA) in the Provost’s office have been working collaboratively to develop strategies to address campus climate issues. We are announcing the co-hosting of a series of structured discussions where students, faculty, staff and administrators can exchange ideas on the many aspects of campus climate including topics such as classroom expectations and responsibilities, the principles guiding civil discourse among and between students, staff and faculty, and how we can respect, support and celebrate all identities in and out of the classroom.

Chancellor DiStefano honored for 40 years of service to CU-Â鶹ӰԺ

More than 150 attendees gathered on Tuesday morning to honor staff who have given decades of service to the Â鶹ӰԺ. The 38th Annual Years of Service banquet provided the perfect opportunity for a surprise celebration of Chancellor DiStefano’s 40 years on the Â鶹ӰԺ campus.

Career development office at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Leeds School receives $500,000 gift

A $500,000 gift from Phillips 66 will go toward the Leeds School’s Career Development Office , which supports undergraduates by providing professional skills, career exploration and preparation, industry experiences and access to employer and alumni connections throughout the student experience.

Early arrival recommended for CU-Â鶹ӰԺ commencement May 9

The Â鶹ӰԺ will hold its spring commencement ceremony on Friday, May 9, at 8:30 a.m. at Folsom Field and people planning to drive to campus should arrive early. Due to traffic delays, and ongoing construction on U.S. 36 leading into Â鶹ӰԺ, early arrival is strongly advised. Gates open at 7 a.m. and guests should plan to be seated by 8:15 a.m.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ researchers confirm leaks from Front Range oil and gas operations

During two days of intensive airborne measurements, oil and gas operations in Colorado’s Front Range leaked nearly three times as much methane, a greenhouse gas, as predicted based on inventory estimates, and seven times as much benzene, a regulated air toxic. Emissions of other chemicals that contribute to summertime ozone pollution were about twice as high as estimates, according to the new paper, accepted for publication in the American Geophysical Union ’s Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres .

An international team led by glaciologists from the Â鶹ӰԺ and Trent University in Ontario, Canada has completed the first mapping of virtually all of the world’s glaciers -- including their locations and sizes -- allowing for calculations of their volumes and ongoing contributions to global sea rise as the world warms.

Surviving cancer gives CU student new perspective on life

For Matthew Cirac, a 23-year-old graduating senior, the main goal he sought to accomplish was to finish school – after fighting stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer his junior year.

Novel antioxidant makes old arteries seem young again, CU-Â鶹ӰԺ study finds

An antioxidant that targets specific cell structures—mitochondria—may be able to reverse some of the negative effects of aging on arteries, reducing the risk of heart disease, according to a new study by the Â鶹ӰԺ. When the research team gave old mice—the equivalent of 70- to 80-year-old humans—water containing an antioxidant known as MitoQ for four weeks, their arteries functioned as well as the arteries of mice with an equivalent human age of just 25 to 35 years.
