Scientists find Southern Ocean removing CO2 from the atmosphere more efficiently

Since 2002, the Southern Ocean has been removing more of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, according to two new studies. These studies, out today in the journals Geophysical Research Letters ( GRL ) and Science , make use of millions of ship-based observations and a variety of data analysis techniques to conclude that that the Southern Ocean has increasingly taken up CO2 during the last 13 years. That follows a decade from the early 1990s to 2000s, where evidence suggested the Southern Ocean carbon dioxide (CO2) sink was weakening.

Levine named Interim Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Safety

Senior Vice Chancellor Kelly Fox is announcing today that Associate Vice Chancellor Larry Levine has agreed to serve as Interim Vice Chancellor for Infrastructure and Safety while maintaining his role as AVC for IT/Chief Information Officer for the campus. The appointment follows the recent retirement announcement by Vice Chancellor for Administration Steve Thweatt, whose last day in the post will be Oct. 16. Fox also announced several reporting changes during the interim appointment.

CU study finds historic 2013 storm washed out up to 1,000 years of erosion

For Suzanne Anderson, a geography professor and co-author of the study, the findings are awe-inspiring.

Kicking off the 2015-16 CU Theatre & Dance season, 鈥淸UN] W.R.A.P.: Undoing Writing, Research and Performance鈥 explores the complexity and evolution of 鈥淏lack Dance.鈥 The three-day symposium, held Sept. 18-20 at the Irey Theatre, will look at the historical impact and ongoing contributions of African American choreographers.

Free tickets for CU-麻豆影院 students will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and will be distributed to currently enrolled, fee-paying students at no charge on Saturday, Sept. 19.
