CU-Â鶹ӰԺ student-built miniature satellite to study solar flares launched into orbit

Dec. 3, 2015 Colden Rouleau/ Scott Palo A NASA-funded miniature satellite built by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students will launch this afternoon from Cape Canaveral, Florida, the start of a six-month-long mission to study solar flares and the powerful X-rays emitted by the sun. Called the Miniature X-ray Solar Spectrometer, or MinXSS, it will help shed light on how powerful solar flares impact the Earth’s atmosphere, an effect known as space weather, says graduate student Colden Rouleau (RUE-low).

Â鶹ӰԺ scientist Steven Maier, who discovered a brain mechanism that not only produces resilience to trauma but aids in coping with future adversity, has won the 2016 University of Louisville Grawemeyer Award for Psychology. The award is among the most prestigious in the field of psychology and comes with a no-strings-attached $100,000 prize.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ study links combination of pre-natal stress and terbutaline to autism and epilepsy in lab rats

Researchers at the Â鶹ӰԺ have discovered that a combination of pre-natal stress and an unapproved pre-term labor medication called terbutaline may create a higher risk for the co-development of autism and epilepsy based on test results involving laboratory rats.
