50-Year Alumni Reunion And Awards Ceremony Highlight Commencement Weekend At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ

The Alumni Association of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will host the Golden Anniversary Reunion and Alumni Awards Ceremony May 14-16, sandwiched around the university's spring commencement ceremony. A record-breaking number of graduates of the class of 1948 and years prior -- about 225 people -- are expected to attend the festivities. William Royal of Â鶹ӰԺ, an electrical engineering graduate and member of the class of 1928, will represent the earliest class attending the reunion.

CU Engineering Student Receives Nation's First Floodplain Management Graduate Fellowship

Leonard Wright, a doctoral student in civil engineering at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ and a graduate research assistant at the Natural Hazards Research and Applications Information Center, is the nation's first recipient of the Floodplain Management Graduate Fellowship. Wright will be awarded $25,000 by the Association of State Floodplain Managers Inc. for research that will estimate the level of flooding and environmental costs that can be attributed to urban development. The award follows a national competition in which graduate students submitted research proposals.

CU Libraries Off-Site Storage To Ease Overcrowded Buildings

The University of Colorado Libraries has begun to transfer a small portion of its materials to an off-campus storage site to ease the overcrowding of book stacks and study areas. The Periodicals Room at Norlin Library is the first area to see the benefits with patrons enjoying improved access to journals and services.

Aspen, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction will host a series of performances of childrenÂ’s opera as part of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ's "CU This Summer" cultural outreach program. The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Lyric Theatre for Children will perform "Hansel and Gretel" by Engelbert Humperdinck in area schools the week of May 18.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Reorganizes, Streamlines Division Of Administration

Reorganization of a major administrative division of the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, announced today, will result in greater efficiency and financial savings, according to Paul Tabolt, vice chancellor for administration. Tabolt said the plan for reorganizing the Division of Administration was developed in consultation with Chancellor Richard L. Byyny in an ongoing effort to control campus expenditures and improve service.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Advertising Students Create Responsible Drinking Ad Campaigns

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Professor Larry Weisberg gave his advertising campaigns class a tough assignment this semester: Create a campaign aimed at college students which promotes responsible decision-making in regard to alcohol. Two teams of students conducted focus groups, studied similar ad campaigns and thought long and hard about what could keep students from binge drinking.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Employees, Visitors Can Expect Parking Crunch May 15

With about 20,000 people expected to attend University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ commencement exercises May 15 at 9:30 a.m. in Folsom Stadium, carpooling and alternative transportation are recommended for anyone planning to be on campus. The Hop and Skip shuttles and RTD buses will be on regular schedules that day. Visitors are advised to arrive early because many parking spaces will be occupied by staff and faculty during regular working hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the first day of summer hours.

3,700 CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Students To Receive Degrees May 15

Â鶹ӰԺ 3,700 students will receive diplomas from the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ on Friday, May 15, in outdoor commencement exercises at Folsom Stadium. Of the 3,733 degrees to be awarded, 2,722 will be bachelorÂ’s degrees, 686 will be masterÂ’s degrees, 168 will be doctoral degrees and 157 will be law degrees.
