Rocky Mountain Winters

Winter can be a difficult season if you come from a warm climate. Here are a few tips to stay safe and healthy during winter.

  • Drink lots of water.

  • On cold days, dress in layers.
  • Wear boots that have grip or add traction devices to shoes to prevent slipping on ice.
  • Avoid ‘cabin fever,’ the feeling of being stuck in one place for a long period of time. Tips include:
    • Study or do homework in a different location other than your room.
    • Meet up for board game nights or cook a meal with friends.
    • Talk to family on the phone or through video chat.
    • Exercise or go for a walk.
    • Attend a concert or visit an art gallery.
    • If you are feeling lonely, consider the Let’s Talk drop in session at The Rec or visit with Counseling and Psychiatric Services.
