Career Services Internship Fair For CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Students On Feb. 16

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students of all levels and majors will be able to talk to more than 70 local and national employers about internship opportunities at the Career Services Internship Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The internship fair, sponsored by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's Career Services and the CU Parents Association, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the University Memorial Center Ballroom on campus.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Remembers Internment Of Japanese-Americans During War

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Libraries and the ethnic studies department will hold a day of events at Norlin Library on Friday, Feb. 18, to remember the time when Japanese-Americans were put into "war relocation authority" camps during World War II. On Feb. 19, 1942 President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed an executive order allowing the U.S. military to force Americans of Japanese descent into the camps.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Celebrates Black Awareness Month In February

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will offer a variety of events in honor of Black Awareness Month in February. Presentations are centered on four themes: Power of the Black Mind, Spirituality, Black Love and Black Leadership. According to Black Awareness Month organizer Valerie Embry, the activities are designed to raise awareness of African-American culture and contributions and share them with the larger community. Scripps Howard Establishes CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Environmental Journalism Institute

The Scripps Howard Foundation has provided a $50,000 grant to the Center for Environmental Journalism at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ for a week-long educational program for journalists who cover environmental issues. The gift will establish the Scripps Howard Institute on the Environment, which will be held May 22-27 in Â鶹ӰԺ and is open to applicants from around the nation.

CU Professor Emerita Jane Bock To Give Second Lecture In Chancellor's Series

University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Professor Emerita Jane Bock will give the second in a series of four lectures for this springÂ’s ChancellorÂ’s Community Lecture Series in February. The series, titled "Women in the Field," features four distinguished women faculty from CU-Â鶹ӰԺ, each speaking on their areas of expertise. BockÂ’s lecture, "A LadyÂ’s Life in the Causcasus Mountains," is on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of The Academy, 970 Aurora Ave., in Â鶹ӰԺ.

Final Draft Of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Campus Master Plan Is Now On The Web

The final draft of the 10-year Campus Master Plan for the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ is now available for viewing on the World Wide Web, according to Vice Chancellor for Administration Paul Tabolt. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Initiates 62 Students Into Phi Beta Kappa Society

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ initiated 62 students in the College of Arts and Sciences into the Phi Beta Kappa honor organization in December. The Phi Beta Kappa Society elects generally the top 6 percent of graduates receiving degrees in the liberal arts each semester but is allowed to accept as many as the top 10 percent of graduating seniors who meet all requirements. Members must maintain a minimum grade-point average of 3.65.

Natural Resources Law Expert To Speak At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Feb. 10

John Leshy, solicitor of the U.S. Department of the Interior, will speak at the University of Colorado School of Law on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m. on "Shaping the Modern West: The Role of the Executive Branch." The talk, in the Lindsley Memorial Courtroom in the Fleming Law Building on campus, is sponsored by the Natural Resources Law Center and is free and open to the public.

Campus Lecture Series Kicks Off Feb. 10 With Focus On The Importance Of Math

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ physics Professor John Taylor, locally known as CUÂ’s Mr. Wizard, will present "Johnny and Jane Need to Know More Math," an interactive lecture about the importance of understanding mathematical concepts, on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 7:30 p.m., in Room 250 of the Humanities Building. The lecture, co-sponsored by CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Chancellor Richard L. Byyny and the CU Office of Community Relations, is part of the new "Campus Lecture Series" scheduled monthly through May in CU-Â鶹ӰԺ’s new Humanities building.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Undergoing NCA Reaccreditation

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit April 17-19 by a team representing the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Evaluations for NCA accreditation occur every 10 years. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ has been accredited by the commission since 1913.
