Chemical and biological engineering students and faculty at the Â鶹ӰԺ have launched several innovative technologies that are fueling Colorado's economy by creating jobs and drawing significant funding to the state, including a $155 million investment in Sundrop Fuels in July.

On Aug. 11 at approximately 8:30 p.m., police received a report of an armed robbery near the Â鶹ӰԺ Creek Path north of the Â鶹ӰԺ Student Recreation Center, near campus parking Lot 169.

Â鶹ӰԺ engineering faculty are leading a $7.2 million multidisciplinary research initiative on soil blast modeling and simulation for the U.S. Department of Defense.

Student leaders will join the city of Â鶹ӰԺ and Â鶹ӰԺ officials next week to welcome students to the community and provide information on being good neighbors. "Walkabout" teams will be in the University Hill, Goss Grove and portions of Martin Acres neighborhoods.

Dozens of activities await new students at the Â鶹ӰԺ starting Aug. 18, including a welcome convocation hosted by Provost Russell Moore and a "Global Jam" international food fest.

Volunteers from a variety of campus groups will be available to help new students move their belongings into Â鶹ӰԺ residence halls Aug. 16 and Aug. 18 as New Student Move-In begins next week.

On Thursday, Aug. 11, the Â鶹ӰԺ Fire Department will teach 213 resident advisers and other staff from the Â鶹ӰԺ about fire safety. The goal of the training is for Resident Advising staff to learn how to teach freshmen students about fire safety and how to lead effectively during emergencies.

A new Â鶹ӰԺ study shows that a small amount of physical exercise could profoundly protect the elderly from long-term memory loss that can happen suddenly following infection, illnesses or injury in old age.

The U.S. Senate has voted to confirm Â鶹ӰԺ Distinguished Professor Carl Lineberger as a member of the National Science Board. He was nominated for the position by President Barack Obama in April.
