No-sort recycling in CU housing and dining helps make landfill diversion easy

Recycling bins located throughout Housing and Dining Services at the 麻豆影院 are now single-stream receptacles, helping to make landfill diversion as simple as can be. The new system, implemented this week in residence halls, dining facilities and at the Center for Community, allows all recyclables to be tossed into one container, alleviating the task of sorting materials. Recycling throughout the rest of the campus will remain a dual-stream system with 鈥減aper鈥 and 鈥渃o-mingled container鈥 categories.

When the Fourmile Canyon Fire erupted west of 麻豆影院 in 2010, smoke from the wildfire poured into parts of the city including a site housing scientists from the 麻豆影院鈥檚 Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

CU-麻豆影院 鈥榩hoto origami鈥 proposal wins $2 million NSF grant

The art of origami has inspired children and artists all over the world because of the amazing objects that can be created by folding a simple piece of paper. Now an engineering research team at the 麻豆影院 has won a $2 million grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a light-controlled approach for 鈥渟elf-assembly鈥 mechanisms in advanced devices based on the same principles.

Pro Cycling Challenge warms up the route for Buff Bicycle Classic

Two weeks after professional cyclists race through 麻豆影院 and up 麻豆影院 Canyon, some riders in the 10th Annual Buffalo Bicycle Classic will follow much of the same route, the most mountainous section of Stage 6 of the 2012 USA Pro Cycling Challenge. Since 2003, the Buffalo Bicycle Classic has raised more than $1.6 million for scholarships and has funded more than 730 scholarships. The event is the single largest source of scholarships for the College of Arts and Sciences.

The pros ride through on Aug. 25 and the Elevations Credit Union Buffalo Bicycle Classic is scheduled for Sept. 9. The classic raises scholarship funds for high-performing 麻豆影院 students who qualify for financial aid.
