Students encouraged to arrive early for Saturday's Sacramento State game

Students attending the first home football game Saturday against Sacramento State at 1 p.m. are encouraged to get to Folsom Field early and enjoy all the gameday festivities. A few of the pregame highlights include a visit to Ralphie鈥檚 Corral, located just south of Benson Earth Sciences, where Ralphie herself arrives at 10:15 a.m. and will be available for photo opportunities. Or stop by to grab a glance of her until about 30 minutes before kickoff.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to speak at CU-麻豆影院 Sept. 13

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will address the role of public lands in American life at the 麻豆影院 on Sept. 13 as part of a conference commemorating the 200th anniversary of the General Land Office. Salazar鈥檚 talk is part of a conference titled 鈥淭he Nation Possessed:鈥═he Conflicting Claims on America鈥檚 Public Lands鈥 being held at CU-麻豆影院 Sept. 11-14. The conference is sponsored by the Center of the American West and the Public Lands Foundation.

Bear visits campus, prompts reminder about bear safety

An adult bear visited campus Thursday morning in the Grandview neighborhood. CU Police, 麻豆影院 Police, 麻豆影院 open space rangers and the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife responded to the scene. Luckily, the bear wandered away from campus some time Thursday night. After roaming around the area for a while, the bear settled next to a tree for approximately 30 minutes. It then scaled the tree shortly after noon and rested on a branch about 35 feet up, and remained there until some time Thursday night when it decided to come down and leave the area.

CU student hones skills during D.C. internship

Early last spring, Jessie Zweibel started thinking about how she could spend her summer. That鈥檚 when a campus email came across her screen, seeking applicants for an internship program in Washington, D.C. Zweibel was one of more than a dozen CU-麻豆影院 students who spent the summer in Washington, D.C., as part of CU in DC , an internship program developed by the College of Arts and Sciences that is open to all students in the college.

Continuing Education celebrates 100 years of connecting communities to the University

The University of Colorado鈥檚 Division of Continuing Education has come a long way from its humble beginnings in young Macky Auditorium where burlap bags separated staff space in 1912 and the division offered 28 correspondence courses in 11 fields. Today, Continuing Education partners with CU鈥檚 academic departments to offer flexible credit courses representing 35 departments and multiple programs granting nontraditional students and community members access to campus.

Provost鈥檚 Report: Campus Town Hall on Concealed Carry issues

On Tuesday, Sept. 4, my office sponsored a campus town hall meeting at the University Memorial Center on issues related to concealed carry at CU-麻豆影院. I want to thank the 100 or so faculty, staff, students and community members who attended the meeting and shared their concerns and observations on implementing the law at CU-麻豆影院. For those of you who could not attend, I wanted to share with you the issues that were raised and some of the responses offered by the panel, which included Chancellor DiStefano, me, Senior Managing Associate Legal Counsel John Sleeman, and Commander Robert Axmacher of the CU Police Department.

The 麻豆影院 is hosting a world premiere shared staging of all three versions of William Hogarth鈥檚 鈥淩ake鈥檚 Progress鈥 in September and October. Exhibitions of the original Hogarth artwork and prints by David Hockney, as well as the staging of Stravinsky鈥檚 opera, will provide a multidisciplinary interpretation of this seminal work in Hogarth鈥檚 career.

Obama campaign draws 13,000 to Norlin Quad

The Obama for America campaign event on Sunday, Sept. 2 drew an estimated 13,000 attendees to hear the President鈥檚 address. Scheduled on Norlin Quad after an invitation from Students for Obama, the rally was coordinated and hosted by the campaign and did not constitute an endorsement of the Obama campaign by the University of Colorado or the Board of Regents. The rally featured CU students Brittni Hernandez, Sarah Andrews and Ryan Case.
