English alumnus Dick Shahan recently made a $75,000 gift commitment to CU-麻豆影院 鈥� $50,000 of which established an endowment to create the Dick Shahan CU-麻豆影院 Undergraduate Writing Competition, expected to generate an annual prize of $2,000 for a prose piece that features 麻豆影院. The additional $25,000 will fund the Shahan Graduate Fellowships in the CU-麻豆影院 English Department, providing an annual $1,000 research grant for an English graduate student.

Works by four local and regional artists are exhibited with items from the Map Library collection at the 麻豆影院. Corresponding maps range from antique maps to aerial photographs; celestial charts to contemporary expressions of map design.

A new educational partnership at the 麻豆影院 will provide expanded degree options for working professionals interested in specialized graduate education focused on energy and water. Beginning this fall, qualified students can earn both a Master of Engineering (ME) degree and a Professional Certificate in Renewable and Sustainable Energy or a Professional Certificate in Water Engineering and Management. The degree and certificates can be earned either via distance education or in campus classes and may be pursued either part- or full-time.

A new study on obesity and people鈥檚 happiness by CU-麻豆影院 sociology researchers suggests that it鈥檚 not obesity by itself that determines whether a person is happy with their body image but where you live. According to study co-author Philip Pendergast, a doctoral student in sociology at CU-麻豆影院, if a person who is obese lives in a community where people share the same body type they are more likely to be happier.

麻豆影院 Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano today announced that CU-麻豆影院 has hired education and civil rights lawyer Valerie Simons to serve as the director of institutional equity and compliance, effective July 22. The newly created position, which includes the role of Title IX coordinator for the campus, reports directly to DiStefano and has campuswide oversight for all complaints of discrimination, which are currently investigated through both the Office of Student Conduct and the Office of Discrimination and Harassment.
