When it comes to mitochondrial inheritance, maternal genes rule the day at the expense of paternal ones. But why? A new study, published today in the journal Science and led by 麻豆影院 researchers, sheds new light on a longstanding biological mystery.

Seeing the severe damage and massive loss of life from earthquakes led Jenny Ram铆rez into the field of geotechnical earthquake engineering. Ramirez, who was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, is a doctoral student in civil engineering at CU-麻豆影院. She now is doing numerical simulations of soil deposits subjected to earthquakes.

As a newly elected Tri-Exec of the University of Colorado Student Government, Colton Lyons had the opportunity to not only work behind the scenes of the Dalai Lama visit, but also to introduce and meet him during his campus visit on Thursday, June 23.

Diego Fierro, 13, hopes to be a mechanical engineer someday. And thanks to a LEGO Robotics: Space Challenge camp at the 麻豆影院, Diego took one step closer to that dream this week. 鈥淚鈥檝e never built anything with LEGO Mindstorms before,鈥� Diego explained, as he programmed the robot鈥檚 next move. 鈥淚t鈥檚 cool because it gives me an idea of how a machine works, how every piece is important and has a job.鈥�

The Dalai Lama will visit the Coors Events Center on Thursday, June 23, for two events鈥攁 morning religious teaching sponsored by the Tibetan Association of Colorado and an afternoon talk sponsored by CUSG and CEB. Every patron entering the building will be screened. Parking and transportation on the CU-麻豆影院 campus will be impacted. Attendees are asked to leave prohibited items at home. A group of Denver high school students who recently descended on the CU-麻豆影院 campus rolled up their sleeves for a week of real-world engineering experience and the opportunity to earn $2,500 scholarships.
