Research Areas
Ethnography & Evaluation Research (E&ER) conducts research and evaluation on a variety of significant issues in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, primarily in higher education.
Our main research areas include:
- student and faculty outcomes from engagement in undergraduate researchÌý(±«¸é)
- advancement of women in science
- underrepresentation of minority groups in STEM disciplines
- graduate education and career development of graduate students
- professional development of faculty, scientists, and K-12 science teachers
- student-centered education in the STEM fields
- out-of-school-time science learning
- outreach by scientists and in universities.
Our extensive qualitative research work on UR has informed the development of the Undergraduate Research Student Self-Assessment (URSSA), an online instrument for use in evaluating student outcomes of undergraduate research experiences in the sciences.
