Tom began his career as a financial journalist covering global development at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. The Pennsylvania native grew up in Connecticut and now lives in New York with wife Nobuko and their son, Andrew.

Joe Garcia (IntlBus), Colorado鈥檚 former lieutenant governor, in February addressed a conference at CU 麻豆影院 about attracting more science-minded community college students to CU and, ultimately, to four-year colleges across America. Currently president of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, Joe also has served as president of CSU-Pueblo and Pikes Peak Community College and as executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. He was lieutenant governor from 2011 to 2016.

After serving five years as Colorado鈥檚 lieutenant governor, Joe Garcia (IntlBus) has stepped down and will serve as president of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, a 麻豆影院-based advocacy organization. He also serves as executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. Earlier in his career Joe was president of Colorado State University-Pueblo and Pikes Peak Community College. He served as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development secretary鈥檚 representative for the Rocky Mountain states, as executive director of the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies and was the first Hispanic partner in the 100-year history of Denver-based law firm Holme Roberts & Owen.

The Buffs鈥 first NCAA giant slalom champion, Stephan Hienzsch (Mktg), was inducted into this year鈥檚 class of the CU Athletic Hall of Fame. He won the slalom as a junior in 1977 and was the only collegiate skier invited to race in the World Cup Series that year. After his racing career, the four-time All-American served as the head coach and director of the United States Disabled Ski Team for four years while working for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association.

Scott Thompson聽(Econ) was part of an investment group that purchased the Beverly Hills Country Club. The group will invest an additional $10 million to restore the club as one of the premier athletic and fitness clubs in Los Angeles. Scott is a real estate investor and transactional attorney in Westlake Village, Calif. Both of his children,聽Hailey Thompson聽(Mktg鈥09) and聽Nathaniel Thompson聽(Fin鈥12), are CU graduates also.

He previously served as president of Colorado State University-Pueblo and as president of Pikes Peak Community College, Colorado鈥檚 second-largest community college. The University of West Florida appointed聽Gregory Lanier聽(MCDBio鈥79) dean of the newly formed University College, which helps prepare students for the workforce before and after graduation, among聽 other services. Previously, Gregory was an associate dean for the arts and sciences college, director for the Kugelman Honors Program and professor of honors in theater and English.

January was quite a successful month for聽Henry Kramer聽(Econ鈥79), one could say. First, he won the Cyclocross World Championships in Gossau, Switzerland. When he鈥檚 not traveling the country and the world, Kramer and his wife live in Menlo Park, Calif.
