Lauren McCain聽(MPolSci; PhD鈥03) is a federal lands policy analyst with Defenders of Wildlife, a nonprofit conservation organization. She works to defend, strengthen and expand federal law, policy and management that conserve wildlife and habitat on federal lands. She co-founded and served as executive director of the Southern Plains Land Trust, which protects grassland species on private lands in the Southern Great Plains. She also has helped conduct conservation field projects in Africa and Mongolia, studying wild animals. She lives in Denver.

The firm, which is backed by Bain Capital Ventures, Battery Ventures, Venrock and Salesforce, also won the innovation showdown contest at VentureBeat鈥檚 DataBeat conference. Amanda previously spent 14 years as the CEO and founder of CI Insights, a big-data services company.

At CU, she focused on the ecological strategies of ring-tailed lemurs in southwestern Madagascar, where her work led to doubling in size of a reserve. A native Oregonian, Dana serves as executive director of the High Desert Museum in Bend, Ore.
