For her love of the arts and her belief in the department,听Roe Green*(CommThtr鈥70) established an endowed chair at CU鈥檚 department of theatre and dance. It is the arts and sciences college鈥檚 first fully endowed faculty position and the largest gift ever to CU鈥檚 theater department. She also is responsible for launching and funding an annual theater-artist residency program that is in its eighth year at CU. Roe resides in Cleveland, Ohio, and received the Alumni Association鈥檚 Alumni Recognition Award in November.

On May 27听Philip Courtney听(MElEngr鈥72) and his wife celebrated their 40th anniversary with a trip to Maui. Philip is a software engineer for SRA International and is an avid cyclist riding for various charities in the summer. They have two children, and the couple enjoys skiing, hiking, traveling, kayaking and rafting.

The Iowa Precinct Caucuses: The Making of a Media Event, Third Edition听(Bur Oak Books) co-authored by Marana, Ariz., resident听Hugh Winebrenner听(PhDPolSci鈥73) shares the history of the first presidential nominating event in the nation: the 1972 Iowa precinct caucuses. Bradford Morrow鈥檚(贰苍驳濒鈥74)novel听The Diviner鈥檚 Tale听(Houghton Mifflin Harcourt) was published in January 2011.听The Diviner鈥檚 Tale听is a journey of self-discovery, an unorthodox murder mystery and a look at the world of dowsing, the ancient act of using a forked branch or stick to locate underground water or minerals. Bradford is founder of the literary magazine听Conjunctions听and is a professor of literature at Bard University. He lives in New York, N.Y.

Mathews Architecture, based in Asheville, N.C., is led by听Jane Gianvito Mathews听(EnvDes鈥75). The firm received the 2011 Firm of the Year Award from the North Carolina chapter of the American Institute of Architects in Raleigh, N.C. This is only the second time a woman-owned firm received the honor. Jane writes this award reflects particularly well on the foundation in design education she received at CU-麻豆影院.

After coming to 麻豆影院 in 1975 during the gay rights movement and the first same-sex marriage licenses being issued,听Gregory Hinton听(Bus鈥77) was inspired to write a book about it,听The Way Things Ought To Be听(Kensington). He is creator of a unique education program series called Out West. Out West informs others on the history and culture of the LGBT community in the American West and is sponsored by HBO and the Gill Foundation. 鈥淢y experiences in 麻豆影院 directly inform this program,鈥 Gregory says. He lives in Los Angeles.

Rio Hondo College superintendent and president听Ted Martinez Jr.听(EdD鈥77) retired in June after 41 years of service in community college education. Ted says he is very proud of the progress the college has made during his tenure as he completed his fifth year as president. One of his major accomplishments includes the completion of a $245 million construction program that revitalized the aging hilltop campus. He lives in San Diego, Calif.

Colorado attorney general听John Suthers听(Law鈥77) appeared in听The Denver Post听in July when he and several of his deputies delivered to the Supreme Court their rebuttal to a lower court ruling that threw out the state鈥檚 public education funding system,听Lobato vs. Colorado. He believes how the state funds public education is a political question, not something that should be decided in court. John lives in Colorado Springs.

On July 12听Ruth Kahn听(Mktg鈥82), a partner at Steptoe & Johnson, received Bet Tzedek鈥檚 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year award at the organization鈥檚 annual Evening of Recognition at Sinai Temple in Los Angeles. Ruth was honored for her extensive service to holocaust survivors on whose behalf she has obtained reparations from the German government for labor performed during World War II. She lives in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Apricot Harvest听(Indian Paintbrush Poets) is a book of poems written by听Victor Pearn听(MEngl鈥83). As a student his poem, 鈥淥ne Year of Grace,鈥 won the 1983 university-wide poetry contest and was the prologue in the 1984听Coloradan听yearbook. Victor taught English and writing at Jining University in Qufu, China, in 2009-10. He lives with his wife in Fort Collins, Colo., where he writes and publishes books and poems.
