After graduating,听Mary Lou Wilkerson Unterburger听(Engl鈥�43) enlisted in the Navy and served for two and a half years instructing Naval air cadets in their first training in instrument flight and radio aids for navigation. She writes she enjoyed reading Clay Evan鈥檚 story on the WAVES, 鈥淲WII 鈥� Women at War,鈥� in the December 2011 issue of the听颁辞濒辞谤补诲补苍.听Mary Lou is retired and living in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Sink, Timber Tavern and Greensman鈥檚 Drug Store are establishments that remain vividly in听Gene W. Miller鈥檚 (CivEngr鈥�46) memory when he recalls his CU-麻豆影院 days. Along with living in the dorms, he lived in Vetsville. He fondly recalls professors Warren Raeder, Bill Thoman and Dean Eccles. Married 64 years, Gene retired from the steel industry. Some of his projects included 麻豆影院鈥檚 Matterhorn Mountain and Chicago鈥檚 State Street Bascule Bridge. He lives in Houston.

Last spring听Loretta 鈥淟ee鈥� Ford听(Nurs鈥�49, MS鈥�51, EdD鈥�61, HonDocSci鈥�97) was inducted into the Colorado Women鈥檚 Hall of Fame for her work in the nursing profession. In 1965 Loretta began working with pediatrician Dr. Henry Silver at the CU Health Sciences Center to develop a pediatric nurse practitioner program, the first in the nation. Their program resulted in more than 140,000 nurse practitioners working in the U.S. today. Loretta resides with her husband in Wildwood, Fla. One of five authors of听100 Years Up High: Colorado Mountains and Mountaineers听(Colorado Mountain Club Press)听Janet Neuhoff Robertson听(A&S鈥�57) is a writer and photographer whose best-known book is听Magnificent Mountain Women: Adventures in the Colorado Rockies听(University of Nebraska Press). In April she and her co-authors, including听James Fell听(MHist鈥�72, PhD鈥�75), gave a presentation and held a book signing at the 麻豆影院 Public Library. She lives in 麻豆影院.

The Iron Mountain Inn bed and breakfast run by听Vikki Viskniskki Woods听(Comm鈥�58) in Butler, Tenn., was named 鈥淏est Bed and Breakfast of Johnson County.鈥� This is Vikki鈥檚 15th year running the inn, which she designed and built. She also built Creekside Chalet, a secluded cabin in the woods for guests who want to bring dogs or children.

鈥淐U is considered an important part of my life,鈥澨�Herb Lundin听(MGeog鈥�58) writes. Although CU did not have a doctoral program in geology at the time, he writes he was well prepared for the doctoral program at Syracuse University. 鈥淕O BUFFS!鈥� he says. Herb lives in Waukesha, Wis.

After reading 鈥淎 call for courage鈥� in the June 2012 issue of the听颁辞濒辞谤补诲补苍,听Risto Marttinen听(Hist鈥�62) thanks Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano. 鈥淎s men of iron and women of granite, we laud this recognition and praise,鈥� Risto writes. Although he no longer climbs cliffs and limits his boxing to the bags at the local gym, Risto is the Kentucky gold medal holder in discus, javelin and shot in the 70-74 age group. He lives near his three grandchildren in Lexington, Ky.听

In July听Patricia Chapman Meder鈥檚 (A&S鈥�62) novel听The True Story of Catch- 22,听The Real Men and Missions of Joseph Heller鈥檚 340th Bomb Group in World War II听(Casemate) was published. The three-part book explores the real men and combat missions on which Joseph Heller鈥檚 bestselling novel听Catch-22听was based while blending history and facts with full-blown original illustrations and rare, previously unpublished photos of the USAAF flyers. Patricia lives in Annandale, Va.

History professor at the University of North Carolina听Loren Schweninger听(A&S鈥�62, MA鈥�66) continues his research and writing. His book听Families in Crisis in the Old South听(University of North Carolina Press) about pre-Civil War divorce among slaveholders was published in September. 鈥淪taying active is the best medicine,鈥� he says. He lives in Greensboro, N.C.

A 鈥淟iving Legend鈥� of CU football,听Mike Bolan听(Acct鈥�63) writes that the best part of the title is to be living. In law school he played rugby and served as a director of the United States Rugby Football Foundation for years. He practiced law, clerked for an Illinois Supreme Court judge and served as a circuit court judge in Chicago for 18 years before his retirement in 2001. Mike has five children, three stepchildren and 17 grandchildren. 鈥淚 am very proud of my CU classmates and teammates, many of whom were outstanding students, genuine scholars and good men and women,鈥� he writes. Mike lives in Glencoe, Ill.

On June 10听Joseph La Camera听(MEdu鈥�63, EdD鈥�70) and his wife celebrated their 40th anniversary. After their retirement from the Thompson School District in Loveland, Colo., the couple worked in Monterrey, Mexico, for two years and two years in Kathmandu, Nepal. They have two children, two grandchildren and one great-grandson. Joseph and his wife live in 麻豆影院.

The Predator Ridge exhibit at the Denver Zoo was dedicated to CU President听Bruce Benson* (Geol鈥�64, HonDocSci鈥�04) in May. He chaired the zoo鈥檚 board during three of its most active years, which included a capital campaign to build more exhibits. The ceremony was attended by about 200 guests, including his wife, three children and 10 grandchildren. The $27 million exhibit is called Bruce D. Benson Predator Ridge.

For the past 20 years 麻豆影院 resident听Dave Carlson听(PolSci鈥�64, MA鈥�69) has been a staff member of the 麻豆影院 County food bank, Community Food Share, where he is in charge of its various garden projects and fruit orchards. A consulting arborist, he has his own company, Carlson Tree. Dave writes he looks forward to a trek to Nepal in the spring with Friends of Nepal, a returned Peace Corps volunteer group.

A lawyer in Steamboat Springs, Colo.,听John Grassby听(Phil, PolSci鈥�64) practices law of business formation and capitalization, commercial transactions, oil and gas and commercial real estate. John taught U.S.-Mexico relations at CU Denver in the 鈥�90s and wrote many columns on related subjects. His first novel,听Calcutta Sunrise听(Nebbadoon Press), was published in June, and he expects the sequel,听Mexico Sunrise, to be released in 2013.

He has worked for large corporations, run his own businesses and taught business law at Southern Oregon University, yet听Dennis Powers听(A&S鈥�64) writes his prime interest is writing books. He has written help books, legal books, maritime books, fiction and nonfiction. Dennis鈥� last two books published are e-books:听A World Within Worlds听补苍诲听The Deadly Seas.听Dennis lives in Ashland, Ore.

During his retirement听Charles Wooten听(MEdu鈥�65) has focused on being a writer. His latest effort is听Side By Side,听a science-fiction novel and personal memoir using the pseudonym Jason Witherspoon. Charles lives in Broomfield, Colo.

Matthew, Mark, Luke and Paul听(Wipf and Stock Publishers) by听David Smith听(Psych鈥�65) was published in July 2011. The book is a literary analysis of the synoptic gospels, concluding that the writers used the Epistles of Paul as a source for their stories of Jesus of Nazareth. David lives in Rogers, Ark.

After serving 12 years as parish nurse and health ministries coordinator at her church in Golden, Colo.,听Karen Anderson Setzer听(Nurs鈥�66) retired on May 31. Her work included setting up a comprehensive program that involved more than 500 volunteers. Karen started the Golden Family of Churches Health Ministries, a consortium of nine Christian churches that work together for the health of the Golden community, including paying for immunizations for children unable to afford them.

Prior to his retirement on Jan. 1听Roy Worthington听(Psych, Soc鈥�67) was a real estate attorney for 38 years. Before that he served four years in the United States Air Force. He and his wife听Nancy Newhouse Worthington听(Fren鈥�67) reside in Lake Quivira, Kan.

The Iliff School of Theology board of trustees appointed听Donna Bates Boucher听(Jour鈥�70) as a member. She is active in the community, serving on the boards of the Mesa Verde Foundation, Samaritan Institute and the advisory board of the Colorado School of Public Health. Donna lives in Denver.
