Overview

The Wuttke and Beckman Foundation Biochemical Sciences Research Award provides support for undergraduate students who are majoring in Biochemistry at the Â鶹ӰԺ,Ìýto reduce financial barriers that may prevent students from obtaining appropriate research support. Recipients will be students who are pursuing research opportunities in laboratories of faculty members who are rostered in a science department.

Grant TypeÌýand Terms

  • 2024-2025 Academic YearÌýGrant:ÌýStudents are paid anÌýaward of $2,000 per semester. Funds are not provided for supplies, equipment, or other research expenses, which will be covered by the host lab.
  • A student may not receive the Wuttke & Beckman Foundation Biochemical Sciences Research AwardÌýand funding from the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) in the same semester.
  • Award Term:Ìý2024-2025 Academic Year

Student Eligibility

To be eligible for funding, students must meet the followingÌýrequirements:

  • Must beÌýmajoring in biochemistry.
  • Must have/maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Undergraduates are not expected to have prior research experience or pre-select a mentor.
  • Preference will be given to students who have financial need as determined by the financial aid office.Ìý
  • Preference will be given to diverse students - students from geographic areas and socioeconomic backgrounds that are historically underrepresented in the fields of the biochemical sciences, first-generation students, ethnically and racially diverse students, and/or students that have faced an unusual adversity.

Student Expectations

To be eligible for funding, students must agree to the following expectations:

  • Must be committed to doing laboratory research.
  • Must remain in strong academic standing (minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA) for the awarded terms.
  • Encouraged to participate in department-wide meetings and symposia.
