Working in the VRC exposes students to a broad variety of art, architecture, and related visual culture. It provides professional, transferable skills in the areas of digital imaging, cataloging, data management, and technical support, which can be applied to careers in museums, libraries, archives, and other similar settings. VRC Work-Study Positions
The VRC offers two types of positions to undergraduates. These positions are limited to students with through Financial Aid. They are not restricted to Art and Art History majors, but having this interest and experience is desirable, and the jobs provide students working in these and related disciplines a great opportunity to work with and learn about art, images, imaging, or equipment for use in creative work, documentation, and teaching.

Position performs a variety of tasks in support of teaching and research, including digitizing and creating descriptive for images in the database.

VRC Graduate Assistant Positions
The VRC typically has one graduate assistant position available to graduate students in the Department of Art and Art History. Graduate Assistant appointments are assigned by the Department to support students and address various functional needs in the program. The VRC position typically requires a regular weekly schedule, with remuneration including either full or partial tuition remission, a stipend, and a contribution toward student health insurance. At the Department's discretion, the position may on occasion be shared between the VRC and another area within the department (i.e., some hours performed in the VRC and others performed elsewhere within the Department).

Depending on VRC needs and the student's experience and areas of concentration, job duties may be assigned among the following areas (required and desired skills are noted in parentheses):

1) Database cataloging (solid art history background required, cataloging training provided)
2) Video collection management and cataloging (knowledge of video formats and editing software required, cataloging training provided)
3) Digital imaging (knowledge of Lightroom and Photoshop desirable; training can be provided)
4) Equipment maintenance and circulation (knowledge of photography and computing equipment desirable; training also provided)

The main duties of the job involve the creation of descriptive information about images for the departmental teaching and research collection. Includes cataloging and updating of authority files on artists, architects, museums, styles, periods, subjects, etc.

This position performs videography duties relating primarily to the Department's Visiting Artist series; and also does video editing, cataloging, and other digital collection administrative tasks for the VRC's video collection in its digital library.
