Project Description

We are investigating how sanitation systems can be adapted to better meet household needs and preferences in rural Peru. We are using interviews and surveys to better understand benefits and aspirations, including how those related to social well-being, are tied to sanitation.

The DLA will work with a graduate researcher to identify how key benefits are tied to sanitation systems, the factors that influence household perceptions, and the ways in which implementing organizations can better support communities that construct their own bathrooms.

Specifically this will include:听

  1. Qualitative coding and analysis of interviews with sanitation implementers on their experiences with implementing a variety of sanitation systems.听
  2. Analyzing peer-reviewed literature to identify previously studied benefits of sanitation and their ties to sanitation system characteristics (like superstructure design, etc).

Special Requirements

  • Previous experience with analyzing qualitative data (through coursework, past positions, or volunteer work) is preferred but not required
  • Spanish language knowledge is a plus.
  • We welcome students from all backgrounds and majors to apply!
