CU-Â鶹ӰԺ marketing professor Dipankar Chakravarti has been elected a fellow of the Society for Consumer Psychology, the second for the Leeds School of Business marketing faculty. "This is a great and well-deserved honor and brings important recognition to the Leeds School of Business and the University of Colorado," said Dean Steven Manaster. "What is particularly noteworthy about Professor Chakravarti is that while this award recognizes his contributions and stature in the field of consumer behavior, he also is a noted expert in marketing strategy and marketing models."

The more time that passes since Sept. 11, the less likely the public will be supportive of military actions like an attack on Iraq, according to University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ researchers. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ researchers from the psychology and political science departments conducted three separate experiments exploring individuals' responses to reported terrorist attacks against the United States. In each experiment they found people responded with an increasing level of conflict to terrorist acts when they were repeated -- rather than just a single act.

The CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Deming Center for Entrepreneurship appointed four new members to its advisory board. The accomplished business leaders are Arthur Dawson, Gretchen Jahn, Larry Jones and David P. Torres Jr.

New York Times science reporter Andrew Revkin will deliver a talk titled "The Daily Planet: Why the Media Stumble Over the Environment" on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences on the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ campus. The auditorium is located in room 338 of the CIRES building. The talk is free and open to the public and is presented as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series sponsored by CIRES.

"Accessing Higher Ground," the fifth annual conference on Assistive Technology and Accessible Media in Higher Education, will be held at the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ University Memorial Center Nov. 6-8. Program coordinators at the CU-Â鶹ӰԺ AT Lab and Disability Services are bringing together national leaders in the field of assistive technology and media to educate students, staff, faculty and community members on the availability and potential benefits of assistive technology in education.

Volunteers and donations from the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ campus community are being sought for the 12th annual Make a Difference Day on Oct. 26. Make a Difference Day is the largest national day of doing good, and is sponsored by USA Weekend magazine and its nearly 600 carrier newspapers in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation.

The Chancellor's Leadership Residential Academic Program at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ has seen an increase in participating minority students from eight in 1999, its first year, to 50 students this fall. Interim Director Carol Miyagishima credits the increase in diversity to the Ethnic Living and Learning Community, which began last year and is closely tied to the Chancellor's Leadership program. The number of students participating in ELLC increased from 20 students in fall 2001 to 52 students this year.

The Chancellor's Committee on Women at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ will present its annual Status of Women Report on Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in Old Main Chapel. Chancellor Richard L. Byyny will address some of the key issues contained in the report. He and committee members will take questions, comments and suggestions from the audience afterward. The public is invited to attend the address and the reception in the Heritage Center in Old Main immediately following.

One of the most prominent and influential artists of the 20th century will give a free public presentation Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ. CU-Â鶹ӰԺ's Department of Fine Arts Visiting Artist Program will bring Robert Irwin to campus for a 7 p.m. talk in the Sibell-Wolle Fine Arts Building, room N141.

Parents and families of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ students have a variety of activities to choose from during Parents Weekend Oct. 25-26. The event draws about 4,000 parents and family members from around the United States and from several foreign countries. In order to help them get around town, the City of Â鶹ӰԺ is providing free passes for the Hop, a high-frequency bus that services the core area of the city.
