An article to be published in the U.S. Department of EducationÂ’s Winter 2000 newsletter will feature the Web site CU 4 K12, which gives teachers access to information and educational programs from the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ for use in the classroom. The site is at www.colorado.edu/cu4k12 . The Department of Education newsletter circulates to 8,000 schools regionally covering Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota and Utah.

Coloradans To Get Celestial Gift In A Christmas Eclipse

People waking up on Christmas morning to find a piece of the sun missing will be relieved to know that Santa didnÂ’t give it away as a gift. Rather they will be seeing the final solar eclipse of the second millennium. Â鶹ӰԺ 40 percent of the sun will be covered at the peak of the partial eclipse, when the moon passing between the Earth and sun will cast a shadow over Colorado, according to experts at the Sommers-Bausch Observatory at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ.

Alaska's Speedy Columbia Glacier On Likely Disintegration Course

AlaskaÂ’s Columbia Glacier, heralded as the worldÂ’s speediest glacier, appears to be on a course to disintegrate and evolve into a spectacular fjord rivaling Glacier Bay in the coming years, according to a University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ researcher.

The University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ’s Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program and the Residential Academic Program in Baker Hall are facilitating extensive undergraduate participation in faculty research. The Baker Hall Academic Program is designed for incoming CU-Â鶹ӰԺ freshmen and sophomores who plan to focus on natural sciences and environmental studies with a strong research orientation. The program offers small classes and provides students with numerous research opportunities working alongside some of CU-Â鶹ӰԺ’s top faculty researchers.

Lecture To Focus On Historic Perspective Of 2000 Election

"Controversial Election? The 2000 Election in Historical Perspective," will be the subject of a talk Dec. 6 in the continuing history lecture series sponsored by the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ Office of Community Affairs and Front Range Community College. Andy DeRoche, history instructor at Front Range Community College, will discuss past presidential elections that were crises for the country, including elections of 1800, 1824 and 1860 involving historical figures such as Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr, John Quincy Adams, Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln.

State-Of-The-Art Classrooms Are Enhancing Instruction At CU-Â鶹ӰԺ

Someday the typical classroom may look a lot like two new ones in CU-Â鶹ӰԺ’s Eaton Humanities Building, with rows of computers all linked to each other and the dayÂ’s coursework displayed on several large projection screens. The classrooms, one equipped with 18 Macintosh G4 computers and one with 23 Dell Pentium IIIÂ’s, have state-of-the-art equipment throughout and an interactive network design linking the instructor and students as never before. The high-tech equipment has created strong demand among faculty who are finding new ways to use computers in the classroom.

CU-Â鶹ӰԺ Business Professor Elected To Honor Society Board Of Governors

John Lymberopoulos, a professor of international business and finance at the University of Colorado at Â鶹ӰԺ, has been elected to the board of governors of Beta Gamma Sigma. As a member of the board, Lymberopoulos will help govern more than 440,000 Beta Gamma Sigma members worldwide. His term will run through June 2004.
