Out in STEM Symposium

The Out in STEM Symposium is an annual event held each spring by oSTEM @ the University of Colorado, Â鶹ӰԺ to celebrate and empower LGBTQ+ students in STEM fields. Events held during previous symposiums have included professional panels, affinity groups for LGBTQ+ students with intersectional identities, games, social events, keynote speakers, and a graduate student research roundtable.

The 2024 symposium will take place on March 18th from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the BOLD Center (ECCE 100). Attendees will be provided dinner at no personal expense. Gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options will be available.

We are currently seeking panelists for this year's symposium. If you are a professional, undergraduate, or graduate student and would like to participate in the 2024 panel, please contact us at ostemboard@colorado.edu.

We want the content of our symposium to reflect the interests of our club members. If you would like to see a particular topic be discussed, have any questions you would like to ask during the symposium, or believe you know someone that would be a great fit amongst our panelists, please fill out our .

oSTEM 2023 Symposium

The 2023 oSTEM symposium had a panel of LGBTQ+ people in STEM fields (non-academic) who provided advice on how to be out and successful in the workplace. Panelists: Amy Zuckerman, Katie Leonard, Ellie Wislinsky, LJ Jones, and Gwendolyn James.

oSTEM 2022 Symposium

For the oSTEM 2022 Symposium, we held a panel of LGBTQ+ people in various STEM fields who shared their experiences being queer in the workplace. Panelists: Elz DeVito, Dr. Jed Brubaker, Aisha Nammari, Dr. Scott Taylor, Arielle Blum.
