- SPAN 3000 Advanced Spanish Language Skills
- SPAN 3100 Literary Analysis in Spanish (must be taken at CU)
- SPAN 3120 Advanced Spanish Grammar
- Hispanic linguistics requirement. Of the total 32 credit hours required for the degree, at least 3 credit hours must be in Hispanic linguistics:
- SPAN 3050 Spanish Phonology and Phonetics
- or SPAN 3150 Linguistic Analysis of Spanish
- or SPAN 4430 Special Topics in Hispanic Linguistics
- or SPAN 4450 Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics
- At least 9 credit hours in upper-division literature, culture and/or language (these 9 credit hours may include the Hispanic linguistics requirement).
- At least 12 credit hours in courses at the 4000 level or above, with at least 9 credit hours devoted to literature:
- 3 credit hours from either
- SPAN 4150 Major Works/Trends: Spanish Literature to 1700
- SPAN 4160 Major Works/Trends: Spanish Literature from 1700 to the Present
- 3 credit hours from either
- SPAN 4170 Major Works/Trends: Spanish/American Literature through the 19th C
- SPAN 4180 Major Works/Trends: Spanish-American Literature Modern/Contemporary.
- These twelve credit hours may include the Hispanic linguistics requirement.
- 3 credit hours from either
- In addition to the 32 credit hours in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, 6 credit hours in courses from outside the Spanish department in one or more related field.
- No more than 3 independent study hours may count toward the major.
- All Spanish majors are required to complete at least 12 upper-division credits at CU-Â鶹ӰԺ, 6 of which must be from the Major Works/Trends courses.
- SPAN 3100 Literary Analysis must be taken at CU Â鶹ӰԺ.
- No pass/fail courses allowed in major credit hours.
- No course with a grade lower than a “C-“ will be counted toward major.
Two different degrees (i.e., a BA and BFA from the College of Arts and Sciences, or two degrees from different schools or colleges) may be earned from CU-Â鶹ӰԺ if the following conditions are fulfilled:
- The student meets the residency requirements of, and is enrolled in, both the College of Arts and Sciences and the college or school granting the second degree.
- For the BA and BFA degrees, 90 credit hours of arts and sciences course work are required (courses from outside arts and sciences that have been approved for the arts and sciences core curriculum will apply toward the 9-credit hours.
- The student has completed all general education and major requirements of the College of A&S.
- Both degrees must be awarded at the same time.
