Bachelor's-Accelerated Master's Program Proposal Guidance

Information is provided below to assist completion of the fields in the BAM proposal form. Full BAM policies and FAQ for faculty and staff are available to further guide the proposal process. Contact the Graduate School with additional questions.

Explain the academic rationale for the proposed BAM program:

  • Provide the underlying academic reasons to combine the two programs.

Explain the demand and projected enrollment:

  • Identify the expected student clientele. This may include outstanding students, students on a professional track, non-doctoral students, in-state students who will seek a doctorate out of state, etc.
  • Include an estimate of enrollment totals and sources of information to inform projections.

Describe any program-specific BAM admissions requirements:

  • Basic information about admissions to guide proposal:
    • Students must fill out the intent form around the junior year for admission to the program.
    • A 3.0 GPA is required for admission; some colleges/units require a higher GPA, letters of recommendation, completion of specific courses, identification of advisor, etc.
      • Identify any departmental or college requirements above and beyond the basic requirement.
  • Basic information about continuation to guide proposal:
    • Students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA at all times in the program.
    • Students must apply to graduate at the beginning of the semester in which they will complete the bachelor's degree requirements.
    • Students must apply to continue with the master's degree program and will be matriculated without further review.
    • Students must maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA while in the master's program, including in the courses being used toward the master's degree.
      • Identify any additional departmental continuation requirements to be monitored internally.

Identify which 12 credits may be taken as an undergraduate for later use toward the graduate degree

  • Students may take up to and including 12 credit hours while in the undergraduate program which can later be used toward master's degree requirements.
    • Identify potential courses which may be taken by the student while still at undergraduate status to be used only for the master's degree.

Identify which 6 credits may be double counted between the undergraduate and graduate degrees

  • Six credits may be double counted toward both the bachelor's degree and master's degree. Double-counted courses may not be used toward a subsequent doctoral program (or additional master's program) at CU Â鶹ӰԺ. Master's degree requirements (aside from double-count allowed) should mirror those for existing master's students (final examination required, etc.).
    • Identify potential courses the student may take while still at undergraduate status to be double counted between the two degrees.

Explain any additional resource needs for the proposed BAM program:

  • Are additional courses, instruction, staff or faculty support necessary? Detail any needs and how they can be met.

Explain the administration of the proposed BAM program

Please consider and detail:

  • Who will serve as faculty director? (graduate director, etc.)
  • Who will make admissions decision at the "intent" stage? (Director, admissions committee, etc.)
  • Who will oversee curriculum issues specific to the program?
  • In the case of cross-department or cross-college proposals, how will programs work together and make student and curricular decisions?

Additional information:

  • Provide additional information if necessary.
