Advising

In IDE, academic advising is a collaborative process. Work with your IDE advisor to set goals, address questions and check your academic progress. 

With over 100 IDE degree combinations, it's important that students regularly meet and check-in with the IDE advisor because curriculum and course listings may change.

We also offer drop-in advising hours on Mondays 1-3 pm that are open to all CU Â鶹ӰԺ students.  These are intended for quick questions (5-10 minutes).

Advising Resources

After declaring an IDE Emphasis, students are assigned a faculty mentor who can be an additional resource for career advising and advice on future endeavors. Faculty mentors do not advise on course registration or classes. Therefore, if you’re unsure if it's a question for a faculty mentor or your academic advisor contact the advisor first.

  • Matriculation: The date a student is first enrolled at CU Â鶹ӰԺ is their matriculation date. This is important because students will follow the catalog and course requirements starting from their matriculation date for their entire college career at CU Â鶹ӰԺ.
  • Holds on Records: IDE automatically places a hold on student records each semester to ensure they meet with their academic advisor prior to registering for classes. Once a student has met with their advisor, the hold will be lifted from their record and they will be able to register for classes. A Scholastic, Dean’s, Financial, or Health hold may be placed on a record for a number of reasons. A hold prevents a student from registering, returning to school, obtaining an official transcript or receiving a diploma. Holds should be resolved as quickly as possible by contacting the campus office that placed it. General inquiries may be addressed to the Office of the Registrar.
  • Prerequisites: Prerequisite courses must be taken prior to taking some advanced courses or the next course in a sequence. The lists prerequisites for courses.
  • Co-requisites: Co-requisite courses must either have been taken or are being taken concurrently (at the same time) with other courses.
  • Upper-division coursework: Courses with numbers that are in the 3000s or the 4000s, for example: GEEN 3400, ASEN 4018.
  • Drop/Add Deadlines: Students have 10 weeks to drop a class by going to their myCUinfo portal. Students have about a week to add a course without instructor’s approval. Please check out the current drop/add deadlines.
  • Petitions: Petitions may be needed for courses taken outside of CU Â鶹ӰԺ, if a student drops below full-time status, to drop or add a course after the University deadline and for any other college or university policy and procedure. It’s important to consult and work with the IDE advisor throughout the petition process.
  • Graduation: After speaking with an academic advisor and upon completion of requirements for a B.S. degree in IDE, a student may apply for graduation. Graduation requires a minimum of 128 semester credit hours and a grade point average (GPA) of 2.25 or higher. It’s important for students to check their degree audit and refer to their academic advisor with any questions about graduation requirements. Students must also receive a C or higher on all IDE curriculum courses. IDE also requires students to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam prior to graduation.
  • AP/IB Credits: If a student has completed AP/IB exams, they should check how their AP and IB scores may earn them college credit by .
